: Hijack of the April-SRT end build thread

Sorry....didn't want to potentially hijack the other thread. I'm looking to purchase a GC SRT8 once the lease of my current SUV expires (July 4th).

The SRT builds for '08 will stop in April. The '09' builds will start in late July...This schedule creates a few questions for me....

First and foremost....any rumors as to what the '09 models will have? More HP? Upgraded interior?

Will there be any '08's left in June?.....Should I buy one now...or in the next month or so to make sure I get one?

Or....Assuming the '09 builds start at the end of July...Should I just hold out and get and '09? (I have a 2 seater summer car....) When would the '09's hit the showroom floors?

Sorry for the "20 questions"....Your feedback is much appreciated....

Considering the JGCSRT8 is now the most fuel inefficient vehicle on the road, I can't see how Chrysler is planning on putting a 392 into it, unless its seriously detuned or will come with cylinder deactivation/VVT....

Car companies are talking about chopping their gas hog performance lines across the board in favor of smaller F/I motors.

These Jeeps are Ridiculous. There fast, easy to mod, and get tons of attention on the road. I would say 6 out of 10 times I get gas, Someone says something about it.

Cylinder deactivation is a freaking joke IMHO. My wifes Tahoe has it and I am getting better mileage with my GCSRT8 then she is with her Tahoe.

I have some of the same questioons -- in the same boat as you vheidenr. Keep hearing rumors of a 6.4L in 2009, that 2008's will stop building in April . . . torn between a "hurry up" and buy an '08 while I can, or wait until probably August-September to get an '09?

Damn I was planning to buy around April/May I think I'd end up hanging myself if I ended up having to wait until September . . . my wife is already about to punch me the next time I say SRT8 :o;)

Who knows, maybe they are pushing up the date of the 6.4 so they can sell them before all this gas mileage B.S. comes into effect. I get 14.5 in the city, that's almost a hybrid for me.

HA HA!! Mine too :rocker:

Only thing I'm worried about is whether or not it'll still be "mine" after she drives it the first time :smokin:

I just joined the "Black, Fully Loaded, Nice Day" contingent this afternoon with an 08, 77 miles on it as of now. The dealers around here (Western NY) say they only bring in GCSRTs by special order. The window sticker has your name on it (in my case, the person who cancelled it). Though I'm a noob, I bought the '08 because my gut is telling me that there might not be an '09. Hope I'm wrong.

It's nice to meet you all and begin putting avatars to names. With just 20 minutes of seat time so far for me, I've got plenty to read about before I can give useful info back, but in this case, I agree with the "don't wait for 2009" sentiment. The economy needs you to go spend the money now :-)

You can buy an 08 today for high 30's and drop in a heads/cam 427 for like 4-5 grand. OR, you can wait like year and pay 45+ for a new 09 with a 392.

Assuming that they even make one.

"2009 Grand Cherokee:

BLUETEC 50-state Clean-diesel and all-new
Hemi engines among new features to be offered

Grand Cherokee Bluetec

[WKJeeps.com, June 21, 2007] The 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee will join the 2007 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty as Chrysler Group’s 50-state, clean-diesel BLUETEC vehicles.

BLUETEC brings together a host of technologies for diesel passenger vehicles, beginning with completely modern, efficient diesel engines and a focus on “denoxing” to reduce nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases. The result is clean-diesel technology in vehicles that meet 50-state emissions standards for 2010. For further information see Grand Cherokee BLUETEC.

As exclusively first reported in our Future Jeeps section earlier this year, Jeep will also debut an all-new 2nd generation 5.7L MDS Hemi for the 2009 model year. The new Hemi will feature Variable Valve Timing technology and other new advancements, resulting in notable gains in fuel efficiency, refinement, power and torque. Specifications will not be announced until sometime next year. The new 5.7 will be Standard on the 2009 Grand Cherokee and Commander Overland models, and will be optional on the Limited models.

The second all-new Hemi engine will be a 6.4L powerhouse that will supposedly put out more than 500 hp. While not officially announced, the new engine is slated for 2009-2010 SRT8 models of the Grand Cherokee, Chrysler 300C, Dodge Charger, the new Dodge Challenger, and one or two other Chrysler/Dodge vehicles.

Production of the 2009 model Jeeps will start in July of 2008. As always, we'll have additional exclusive information on the upcoming Grand Cherokee models before anyone else, stay tuned."

...guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens eh?

This information was based on inside info from last June and was accurate at the time (and still may be accurate as far as 2010 goes). Plans were changed a few months later for the '09 models, and the information was later updated to state that ALL SRT8 models would have the 6.1L engine for the 2009 model year. Details on the 6.4L are still sketchy, it has not yet been cancelled but info is being kept very tight.

That settles it for me. I'm getting an '08 as soon as possible. The pushbutton start being the main new feature for 2009 isn't that important to me. Er wait . . . it is pretty cool . . . damn I hate that!

Resume, will the "New Generation" be anything resembling the Cherokee as we know it, or will it turn into a Libert/Patriot ugly Hybred?

If the new gen 5.7 Hemi really is gonna put out 380 or so hp, then I really need some more hp in my 6.1. As it stands, Mopar has kept us at 420 for a few years now and i really wouldn't mind a clean 500 hp... :D
