I have ever seen, now you just need a GSM supercharger!

I am hoping by December I will have one installed.

They are awesome. I dig the Dropstars for sure! Nice choice. So did you stay staggered, or go to a single size all around?

Thanks it was a tough choice. I kept them staggered. Front 265 / Rear 285

what size did you go ge2?

ge2
09-26-2006, 10:01 PM
I have 22 x 9.5 in the front and 22 x 10.5 in the rear. 265/35 and 295/30 giving me .2 of a difference in OD.

Where did you test your OD? I would like to see where my OD is.

265 and 285?!?! Wait a second here. Either Toyo has a new sidewall size or your tire shop didn't give you all the facts before putting those on. On an AWD vehicle you need to keep your OD really within a 1/4 inch if you absolutely cannot match the size exactly.

Here you go: TOYO TIRE SPECS (http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/product_spec.asp?lpid=35&name=Proxes%20S/T™&category=lgt-suv-truck).

Those are the true size of my tires i just checked. I thought you were talking about your speedo when you were saying "OD".

No no, I am referring to Overall Diameter. In AWD vehicles if you start rolling tires in the front that are different diameter than the rear wheels, you are going to really screw up your ride. The vehicle is geared so all 4 wheels will turn at the same rate. You throw something with an inch difference in OD and you're going to have some real problems. If this was a 2wd-- then you'd be totally fine. What size 265 and 285 did you get?

265/35/22 and 285/35/22. My tire guy at Laketown Speed said he did a bunch of research and calls and found no problems with this size. He spent several weeks looking into it. I am going to have to make some calls in the morning. Thanks for the heads up and I will let you know what I find out.

You're sitting at 29.3 and 29.9. So you're over a 1/2 inch of difference. The general rule of thumb (by no means concrete or absolute), is to stay under .25 inches of difference. At .6 inches, you're more than double the 'rule of thumb' on this. That doesn't mean it won't work for you, but it does mean that almost anyone familiar with awd setup, and tire sizing would recommend against your rubber combo. When you accelerate quickly, then take your foot off the pedal, do you 'feel' the gears more than you did before the new shoes?

Look at it this way.... worst case, just have them swap out one of the sets of tires for a closer matching set. You don't need to get rid of those gorgeous new wheels or anything. What width are the wheels?

9.5 front and 10.5 rear

Classy setup!!!

Please listen to GE2 and swap your tires ASAP! You can do major damage to your AWD system:(

ge2 - You've got me curious on this whole OD issue, i'm not well versed in the details of aftermarket tires, but it sounds like you know your stuff. I'm trying to compare sizes and i'm looking for the 295/30/22 that you have for comparison, but I can't find them on the Toyo link you gave up top, do you have another link w/ that info?

ge2
09-27-2006, 01:22 PM
It is on that link. Maybe 10-15 lines from the bottom of the chart.

It says:
295/30/R22 103Y 242520 10.0-10.5-11.0 36 10 29.1 11.5 13.8 1929 50 715

Ge2 you were right that is too big of a difference and they are trying to order the 295/30 for my rear wheels today. Are your tires a toyo proxy s/t? Thanks for that heads up.

Good to hear you're getting it taken care of. Yes, I am running the 295/30/22 Toyo Proxes.

Ge2 New tires go on tomorrow. And no charge to me,the performance shop is eating it (as they should). They feel stupid that they didn't catch it in the first place. I am trying to score SEMA tickets from them because of thier screw up. Like you were saying earlier, that is what the forum is for. Thanks again from me and my srt8.

SEMA is an awesome time! I go every year, and it just keeps getting better! I love that trip! Maybe I'll see you there.

Do you drive or fly to Vegas?

ge2

I fly down. Usually Wenesday night, and head home on Saturday.

That only matters front to back size sizing on a AWD Vehicle. The difference can't exceed a 1/4" from stock size. My Discount Tire says? Good looking for sure. Gene

ge2

That is correct... this only matters on AWD vehicles.

Wow, glad I got the Laredo. No worries there lol. JK!

ge2

The laredo isn't AWD?

Street WK
10-02-2006, 12:51 PM
Nope. Well, they make a 4x4 version that always has 4x4 engaged, so I guess technically it's AWD? I'm not too sure what the specifics or differences are btwn 4x4 on all the time and AWD.

I live in SC, summer all year and no need to put on winter "shoes" on the vehicles :)

ge2

I don't do winter wheels either. But with your AWD OR 4WD, you need similar OD on front and rear.
