Hey!

I Have a 2006 srt8 stock,

I need to know if I will beat a 2004 SVT Cobra ?

If not,
what if I put intake and exhaust ?

Thanks,

Stock...not if they are a good driver. Modded- don't even try. If you do race you should definately just do stoplight to stoplight races or up to 80 or so otherwise you will just watch him coast right by. Intake and Exhaust will not help.

He says he is stock except for Flowmasters and K&N Airfilter, I think he is an Ok driver

He wants to do a 1/4 Mile Distance,

Will Chip+ exhaust+intake make it?

How many horses I need to add to win?
What do I need?

Just run the guy and have fun! If he beats you, so what? Exhaust/chip/CAI isn't going to make that big of a difference right now. Your Jeep is still a fast rig and you'll still give him a good run - that's what its all about. Just don't try to auto-stick it! Put it in drive and just mash the throttle. Go for it, you both might be surprised.

His is capable of running 12's with a higher trap speed than yours with just a drop in filter. I think you will give him a good run until about 80-90mph and then it will be over. You will never know for sure until you run him and in the end you are driving a Jeep that could at least keep up with him and there is something to be said for that. Don't go putting bets on that race though unless he just can't drive.

on the street you can probably hold him off until 80ish because of traction issues

I'd be leary about him saying it's "stock", unless you know the guy and car history. Stock, unless he screws the pooch, he wins, unless you race the first 660'. I don't think there is anybody out there who wants to run their cobra who hasn't invested a few dollars into their car, and at least a few bucks for a pulley..which in itself will turn the race pretty ugly real quick for you. Sometimes second isn't so bad, I guarantee that having an SUV just lose slightly (headlights still in his sideview mirrors) to a blown car will still impress the chicks:D

You would take the stock Cobra off the line but he would be pulling hard past you by 50mph and never looking back. Cobras respond to the cheap mods very well. So if he says hes just got an intake and exhaust then theres no chance whatsoever. Cobras put down around 420 to the wheels with those simple mods. Oh and most Cobras are putting down between 365-385 stock.

Yes, you can win, if his engine detonates.

You also win because along w/your chicks&beer you still have room for a party pizza & liter of CrownRoyal... &(if that wasn't enough) you can go through wet grass w/o getting stuck... :D

You may want to watch this video... If you race it will only be for fun but not to win unless he sucks as a driver.

0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds
1/4 mile in 12.0

The preceding is very impressive. The SVT is one second faster in the 1/4 mile than the new GT 500 Mustang. Wow!

07 GT 500 Mustang Coupe = 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds; 1/4 mile in 12.9 seconds

http://www.caranddriver.com/shortroadtests/11347/2007-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-convertible.html

How can the new GT500 have 100 more horsepower than the SVT, and be a second slower in the quarter?? Was the SVT under-rated from an HP perspective? Or am I mssing something obvious???

Because they actually pulled a 12.9 1/4 mile in that Cobra, however the only number they posted was 12 because that was the biggest point- the can runs 12's off of the showroom.

13.0ish 115ish

Jerod

If he runs a 13 then he really sucks driving... If he knows how to drive then he will see more like a mid to low 12 at about 115-117mph.

Just had a run in with an SVT Cobra on my way home for lunch.
He pulled up next to me at a light, he was admiring the Jeep so I asked if he wanted to give it a go.
My reaction time was a bit slow away from the line but I still pulled away by about a cars length and stayed there until we hit about 80 then he caught me and was pulling away as we had to slow for traffic.
Great adrenaline rush!

I just traded in an 03 Cobra convertable for an 06 Jeep SRT-8

I had Pretty much the same mods as your buddy Except for an 2.81 pulley

stock dyno pulled 370hp (convertables had slightly more hp than the coupes)

added kn cai pulled 398hp

added borla stinger cat back pulled 425hp

added pulley, offroad x pipe, and tune pulled 479hp

the next step was drag radials for the lack of traction
it also had major wheel hop (shake your fillings out of your teeth)
never ran it in the Quarter though.

by the way this is my first post. I enjoy reading all the post this is a great forum.

You can win easily...Get the holeshot on him and get in his lane...slow down then take off again...tell him your contact fell out...it works every time!!!

I am very interested in how this turns out. I have a good friend with a lightly moded GTO, we are waiting to head to the track. From everything i have read this should not be a problem for the Jeep. THe cobra seems to be a bit more of a challenge.

The main thing is your holeshot, they will be playing catch up, and no matter how fast you are this is a mental speed bump. The advantage goes to you if you get out of the hole!!!

its the newer one with400hp

He has different mufflers not a cat back, CIA, Hand held programmer, and a short shifter.Non of these should make him that much faster then us.

By the time we run I will have B&B exhaust with my CIA, new 170 thermostat and... maybe a tune by B&G, I should also be the better driver, he doesnt race much.
