"The SRT8 strikes me as the kind of oddball limited-edition performance machine that will inspire a cult of people who will cherish its strange talents for years, long after its thirsty V-8 is out of style — and out of warranty."

I think he is talking about US in that article!!!!

The author pretty much nailed it. I wonder if he gave it back or kept it:)

"Floor the throttle and the rear tires scratch the pavement for a moment before power is ushered to the front and 4,819 pounds of S.U.V. leap forward like a goosed hippopotamus."

Haha

I started writing before I got to where the author said the lifetime powertrain did not apply.

Pretty cool little article. I love being the anti-trend guy in my SRT8 in Manhattan, could've had an Acura, MB, LandRover, X5, or PCar -- but why? Those things are a dime-a-dozen. This truck is big and brutish. It sucks on gas, it's live rear axle makes driving it as a DD interesting on uneven pavement (forget potholes!). Yet, I love driving this thing! It is such a bada $ $!! Glad the NYT agrees :D

I wish they did more articles on it. It is always fun to read about our Jeeps.

I see. But it would be okay if it were a bull, I guess?

"lane changes are effected with all the lithesome agility of a sinking tugboat" Hmmm, Maybe sombody should take this dude out and sling his arse around on a curvy road!
'Cause these trucks ain't no slouch in a turn either!

I always feel good when I read articles like that. Especially if the NYT rag writes about out Jeeps.:fu:

Good read except the handling comments. Apparently, he should have driven it a little harder!

I run mine pretty hard every day.........

He must have been totally floored at every opportunity to
get just 9.9 mpg......dam.

I get 11.8-12.8 around town and idling at daycare.

When I go somewhere over 20 miles straight, driving easy
the mpg readout usually tags high14--low 15s.

Smacks of typical lib journalist elitism of the NYT. :crbaby: Can't give a compliment without shrouding it in three backhands. Low MPG is not "unforgivable". I do think he's got it right about the owners of these things and some of the performance, but I'd say the handling is more responsive and nimble than he writes, Bwoody links and Addco swaybar notwithstanding. Let's remember he's writing for an audience...
