You can probably get an aftermarket remote start to work with a double tap of the lock button to activate it. It's common to do it this way on other makes using a remote fob (like Lexus). The downside (at least on a Lexus) is that once the car is running you cannot unlock the doors with the remote and must do it with the key :( I doubt you can do this with the OEM remote start. I plan to get the standard keys without the built in remote and go with an aftermarket alarm/remote start...probably Clifford so I can share the remote with my SL. My truck has Ungo with Remote start that's worked flawlessly for 7.5 years but I'm selling that vehicle soon.

Aftermarket only, if it is even possible to add the 07 feature it would probably take a lot of research, some trial and error, be very expensive and still probably wouldnt work on an 06.

It uses the wireless control module, but has a seperate antennae beneath the dash pad. The biggest problem will probably be trying to use an 07 module with 07 software in an 06 WK. There is also a seperate pin switch under the hood and the way the engine cranks even with the key is different than the 06. So it may also need different software in the PCM and possibly FCM all of which probably wont work with an 06.

I dont have the GC, but same family.
Got a 300 and the dealer installed my alarm (I think its aftermarket) and when I press the lock button it starts and I can unlock the car with the key FOB.
Cost me like $600, but comes with warranty from factory so no worries.

When did they first offer the Remote Start on the SRT-8 Jeep?

How do you operate the system?
In other words, how does it work?

07 is the first year for factory remote start on any DCX product. Its just another button on the key fob, push it twice and the car starts.

I have installed an aftermarket remote start on my -06 gc. I start with 2 push on the lock button. I can stop with 2 push on the lock button and I can unlock when the engine is runing.

What system do you go with? Is it available here in the states?

I didnt say its a bad thing, its pretty cool.
If you have freinds in the car, they can start it themselves.
