: What to look for in a used '06 Jeep SRT
roushracin 01-31-2008, 12:48 AM My first post here. I've been lurking for about 2 weeks and looks like a great site. I live in the St. Louis area and have found a nice '06 Jeep SRT that has EVERY available option. The Jeep dealer is asking 33,777 for it and has 16k miles, one owner, clean carfax ride. My question is what should I look for in this model year? Any recalls? I've read some previous posts and I believe I saw something for the TCM and maybe the tires. Will the dealership be able to tell if these recalls were done or not? Any other info or advice would be a great help. Bob
Toothmonger 01-31-2008, 04:33 AM Dealer should be able to tell if it's had all the service bulletins addressed. That sounds like a pretty good price from a dealer. I'd ask for new tires if it doesn't already and maybe an extended warranty :) Enjoy!!
ResumeSpeed 01-31-2008, 05:08 AM Good advice per the tires, negotiate those in the deal or get the price down another $1500.
Also, see this thread for some tips on buying used:

Digital20 01-31-2008, 07:24 AM Personally I think you are better off waiting a little while until you can afford an '07. I know where I live there is at least 3 that have been sitting on diff dealers lots for over 2 months. They are having a hard time moving these, and that can only play to your advantage( one truck was lowered by 5 grand within its first month and its still on the lot as we speak!!). If you look long and hard I am sure you will be able to find an '07 at a very comparable price.
shodanusmc 01-31-2008, 07:36 AM Look a Paint for blems, scratches, dents, orange peel, fascia and bottom of fascia, wheels for scrapes, tire condition, brakes (there is a TBS), front of headliner for Rips and gashes, fit of all doors and fenders...do they line up or are they off, all carpet and seat material, is it ripped?, do windows go up and down with out binding.
Start car. Any smoke? Noises? Look undercar for leaks...O Rings leak of these. CHeck all engine fluids. IS Anti-Freeze clean? Oil? How does the engine look? Any mods?
Drive car? Any stange noises? Creaks and groans? How does the trans shift? Clunks or hesitations? Rattles insides of car and around dash? Wind noise and noise coming from front whindshield at speed? Any shimmy or shake when braking? Noise?
The price is high for an 06....you can do better. I would not buy a used HiPo vehicle....how was it driven? Taken care of? Make sure you get a warranty. Call Don Conrad and get a new 08......Best of luck.
roushracin 01-31-2008, 01:50 PM Thanks guys for the info. As for a better deal SHODANUSMC, I've looked on Cars.com and Autotrader.com and nothing compares to this vehicle with all the options it has. Sure, there are some out there for about 34k but they don't have the nav or rear entertainment system. If you can find one better for me, PLEASE let me know, thanks. I have been reading a lot of previous posts and Don from Champion in Barrington sounds like a great guy to deal with. However, I didn't see any used ones. I just can't afford a new one at 40K. I'm looking to spend no more than 34-35K.
Digital20 01-31-2008, 02:19 PM Roush, check this link.... not sure on the options but it is an 07' for 32 and change..... also not sure of where youre located but this is in Kentucky.....probably woulda been mine if it was in N.Y. with less miles......

They can do better on the price. Shop around a little.

Hey thanks a lot for the link! I went ahead and emailed them with some info on the vehicle.
pharmd 01-31-2008, 04:27 PM Sorry, but there is already a deal in the works on this Jeep, from what they told me, I think it to be sold.

I think at least 2 fully-loaded 07s with around 10,000 miles have sold here for around $35. You just need a little patience.
MoparNut 01-31-2008, 09:52 PM Hey!!!
Yea, you definitely can find one to your liking. I bought my used '06 last year totally loaded, certified 8/80k out the door including taxes for 33k. I was going to get an '8 but decided to get the best bang for my buck. So I started to research on all SRT's 06-08 till I found the perfect one. I must have ran about 60 Carfaxes in 1 month. I figured there wasn't much difference in the years so why waste the extra money so then I could just spend it on my mods which I'm quite happy doing. Good Luck & be patient. Even if the dealer is asking more than you think just offer them a low number until someone agrees. They think they have a unique vehicle so that they can ask a ridulas price but this is definitely not the case.

Digital20 02-01-2008, 06:54 AM Paul, isnt there a major difference between the 06 and the 07 as far as the tranny go??? maybe its shift points ? also what dealer did u buy one from?? I only ask b/c I also live on Long Isle. and am currently looking for the "right one" going on 6 mos. lol Im picky
roushracin 02-01-2008, 03:08 PM Thanks for the encouragement guys. I went today and checked out the one they were asking $33,777 for and it was BEAUTIFUL! I went through the checklist given earlier in the thread and everything checked out great UNTIL we started dealing.:( They lowballed my trade by almost 3k less than other Jeep dealerships were doing. Don Conrad, if you read this, I hope you can help me!;)

MoparNut 02-01-2008, 10:21 PM Hey!!!
When I was searching for my SRT. I looked all over to compare everything but kept it to a reasonable distance. I have a house in LI and SWFL so the east coast wasn't a problem and as far west to Chicago. Anyway, I bought it in Charlotte and it was in perfect condition except for a few curb rashes on the wheels but I shipped them out to get chromed anyway since I put on a winter set up as most of you know. Anyway, I haven't had any issues with my '06 and thought many were having a few issues with the 07's & 08's but basically they are identical in my eyes.
