: Look what showed up in the Mail today.
navyavi469 01-23-2008, 03:36 PM Vredestein 315/35ZR20 and 275/40ZR20 Ultrac Sessanta SUV Tires, Y-rated to over 186 MPH. Overall impressions, very aggressive asymetrical directional tread.. .definately a SUMMER ONLY tire. For the price, they are extremely competative as compared to the more well-known brands, especially for the 315 series, which tends to jack up the price astronomically.
I'll continue this thread after they are installed and test driven; very interested to measure performance, ride, sound, and handling.

I got the link over at the other site, Fair Mount Tire out of California. http://www.fairmounttire.com/
You need to do a google search to get a phone number, their website isn't the best, but their customer service is top notch, request Juan.
OurZoo 01-23-2008, 06:00 PM You cannot use them year round even in your weather?
1BAMFR 01-23-2008, 07:25 PM ooooooooooooo babyyyyyyy

Steve
bmartin9122 01-23-2008, 08:53 PM In Florida (like here in S. Texas), you should be able to use them almost year round.
LBCSRT8 01-23-2008, 09:34 PM Definitely watching this thread! Those look sick! Can't wait to see them on.
SRTLUVR 01-23-2008, 10:13 PM Please post pics once mounted. And please keep us posted with your opinion of performance. I'm getting wider tires in just a couple of months, and have had my eye on these.....sweet choice, please keep us informed.
Chase
OurZoo 01-23-2008, 10:32 PM I would think I can run those year round in SoCal. Niiice choice. I have been considering these when I need to replace the rubber.
Matt McKenzie 01-24-2008, 05:36 AM Yep...just waiting on your thoughts Winston! Nice buy!
Go~RillaWRX 01-24-2008, 07:16 AM Full peformance review please.... Specifically, launching, cornering, noise, vibration.
Those look sweet, but I always skeptical of non-major brand tires.
I was surprised by Kuhmo and Falken, so hopefully these will be similar.
Great find and looking forward to your review.
sy1616 01-24-2008, 07:24 AM Swaaaaweeet! Looking forward to pics.
I most interested in drone....if any!
Lil0ne 01-24-2008, 08:44 AM Yea, I'm looking for a better set of track tires.. and at 800 for 4 for them.. that would be sweet! Let us know :)
Muellge 01-24-2008, 10:14 AM Looking forward to the installed pics and the updates on the ride and "gription" reviews. For replacing the stock tires, this is the set up I've been looking at, but haven't gotten enough visual info to get me over the hump. Also, there was one fellah who posted here in another thread who was talking about some vibrations and issues, t though those issues seemed unique to the install and his set and not a brand killer. I am not dissuaded and am thinking that this is the set up for me. Hurry up and get the installed and running on your ride.
AirForce Hemi 01-24-2008, 01:43 PM Why are you running 35 tall in the rear and 40s up front? Why not run 35s up front also?
I was thinking about the Toyo Proxes, but these I like. :D
MatFab 01-24-2008, 02:42 PM Why are you running 35 tall in the rear and 40s up front? Why not run 35s up front also?
Tires are sized in an aspect ratio. Link below for a better explanation than i could give.. Pretty simple once you get into it. It takes some mixing and matching to come out with the same overall height which is crucial in our application.

What I'm asking is why not run a 35 tall front and rear?
MatFab 01-24-2008, 03:52 PM What I'm asking is why not run a 35 tall front and rear?
35 is the aspect ratio of the width.
so a 275/35/20=27.6
A 275/40/20= 28.7
And a 315/35/20=28.7
See how the second 2 are IDENTICAL... thats what your looking for if possible on an AWD vehicle.
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Play around with that for a while also..

have them ordered but still not recieved.. will know more info tomorrow. Hopefully have them here soon
navyavi469 01-24-2008, 06:02 PM Drag Radials are great... but what do you want to break first, tire traction or an axel spline? I'll take a few tenths in the quarter to save a few grand in parts... at least for now.
AirForce Hemi 01-25-2008, 04:13 AM 35 is the aspect ratio of the width.

Ok cool. Thats what I was looking for. Didnt know you couldnt run a shorter side wall up front.
Thanks for the info.:)

Hey no problem... and you can run a smaller up front.. but you will end up in the failed transmission or transfercase thread..
navyavi469 01-25-2008, 07:27 AM AirForce.... I dont think you're understanding whats going on here. The sidewalls are the same height... the second number in the tire dimension " 35 or 40" is not a dimension. Its a ratio.... a completely unitless scalar number...
The sidewall height on the staggered tires are the SAME HEIGHT. Becuase the width is different, the aspect ratio must also change to conserve the uniform sidewall height.
This is why it takes 3000 people ,in an air-conditioned hangar, on a 4000 acre airforce base somewhere in Nebraska, to maintain a single squadron of F-15s. But the Navy can maintain/fly/fight 105 aircraft, tossed around in rough seas, day/night, in weather, parked 12 miles off of a hostile coastline, on a floating hunk of steel 14000 miles from home.

navyavi469 01-26-2008, 07:48 AM If it makes you feel any better AirForce I went through primary flight training in T-37's, Vance AFB, Enid, Oklahoma. Definately a professional bunch, regardless of how many tax dollars they sucked up to pay for flatscreens and beer :D

Sorry, didn't realize you guys were playing. All good.
navyavi469 01-26-2008, 10:57 AM The Vredestein's are ON! Too bad its a horrible looking day and the Jeep is FILTHY, I'll take some pics when the conditions merit. As far as ride goes, I only got up to 45mph, but the smoothness is noticable, very quiet and the grip is without equal.
Chris@LPM 01-26-2008, 11:47 AM Nice Winston, I will have to take a look at them next week. Let me know when you will be at the shop and I will drive over.
navyavi469 01-26-2008, 12:19 PM Jeepie is home for a few days for minor mods... Anybody know how to get the front Rotors off? I took the calipers off and the little O-ring around the Hub.. but they won't budge. I'm afraid if I hit it with a steel hammer it will damage the stock rotor.

Haven't touched the brakes yet, but a rubber mallet is one of my favorite tools :bangin:
navyavi469 01-26-2008, 12:36 PM Nevermind, I figured it out... I just wansn't whapping it hard enough with my rubber mallot... You really gotta get some swing in there!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot:
FOR SALE, stock brake rotors, set of FOUR... 15K miles... $50 plus shipping.

So you are saying that it is a problem? I like Beer and flat screens.....
Besides, I would Love to see you land or take off a C-10 or C-5 on one of your precious hunks of metal boats....
Here in the airforce, we like to live good. And I believe they said that the Navy has more planes than the Airforce...We just use them better...:D:D:D

About 30 years ago we DID land a cargo plane on the deck of a carrier just so those airforce bozos would shut the *** up.
