: Tire Pressure Warning?
recentrisk 09-13-2006, 02:00 PM Mine went off because it said my back left tire was at 27psi while the others were at 31psi. I went to the gas station and added air and I am up to 32 but the warning has still been on for days. Do I have to go to the dealer to have it reset?
anyone had this issue?
ibbigc 09-13-2006, 02:04 PM My light came on when the left front tire was at 29 psi. I added air and the light went off after driving about 10 miles and has not come back on.
Had the same issue when it started to get cold around here. I think they go on when the tires get below 30psi which I think is strange depending on temp tire pressures can vary by like +- 5psi. It was really anoying I pumped them up to 36.

There is no dealer "reset" procedure. The system is supposed to reset after 2 minutes of driving >15mph. What are your readings for all 4 tires? What does the warning say?
idealrides 09-13-2006, 02:37 PM To reset the monitors you have to bring the pressure up to 34 psi, then you can lower it back to 32 if thats the pressure you want.

recentrisk 09-14-2006, 03:20 PM ok I only brought it back up to 31, which is where the other 3 were at... i will go to 35 and see if that takes care of it...
Fast1 09-14-2006, 05:33 PM Mine has been telling me low pressure in 3 of the tires for a few days. I took it to the air pump, checked all of them manually and the gauge read 33 lbs. on each tire. (cold)
danman_s 09-14-2006, 10:58 PM Yeah, mine has been doing that on 3 of my tires so far, it's because the outside temp has dropped so much that the tires are falling well below 30 psi. I simply leave it and let them warm up as I drive. I won't get worried until it shows less than 20 cold one day :P
srt-8-inferno 09-15-2006, 05:59 AM Had the same problem on three tires. It seems if you get your tires above 33psi (cold) it satisfies the system.
sacarmic 10-23-2006, 06:57 AM I'm about ready to take mine to the dealer. I put 36psi in mine, and three different gauges confirmed that, and the jeep still read 32/33 and would not reset. ARGH!!! :)
The warning light came on yesterday and the sensors reported 3 tires with --PSI, and the front right with 34 PSI. 15 minutes later the light came up again with the front right reporting --PSI.
I parked in a heated garage, and when I picked up the Beast later on all 4 sensors were reporting 33 PSI.
Not feeling too good on this especially since this was a December '07 built.
Any updates on how to resolve this?
maf1960 12-30-2006, 10:48 AM Similiar question: UNEVEN pressure - my two front tires are always at 33-34 PSI (varies depending on warm or cold). My right rear is generall equal to my two fronts. However, no matter what I do, my left rear tire is ALWAYS 2-3 PSI higher than the other 3 tires. My trunk is empty and this is with no passengers. any thoughts..
JTSRT 12-30-2006, 11:33 AM Not sure if all computers are the same, but you can unhook the battery to reset the computer, may try it and see if it works once you get the tire pressure where you want it.

Mine are often off by 1-2 psi but if I work hard, I can get them pretty dead on. It takes a lot of effort to make them the same (i.e. add/remove air, drive, cool down, repeat). I deal with it being off 1-2 but do not have the problem you have in 1 of the 4 always being off 2-3.
kramsay1234 12-31-2006, 12:43 AM I can tell you from experience in other vehicles that these tire pressure monitors can be a total pain in the @ss! Unfortunately with run-flats they are necessary, but even the german cars have issues.
Knock on wood I have not had problems with mine yet.

These sensors are absolutely worthless!!!! Anybody know if Jeep is replacing these or has a software fix?
Stickman 01-17-2007, 12:46 PM These are common problems with tire pressure monitoring systems. They are designed to allow for variations in pressure for most operating conditions but the key is you must inflate the tire to the recomended cold inflation pressure when the tire is stone cold (even driving to a gas station will heat up the tire to much) otherwise it will never work right. If you do it stone cold and it does not work, then you should see the dealer. I inflate mine in the morning with a portable pump after the truck sits all night.
I am sick of mine. 6 degrees this morning means that all 4 tires are reading 27psi. causing the alarm on all 4 tires. way way too cold out to be putting air in the damn tires that don't need it. after 30min of driving all were back up to 32psi.

PSI drops during extreme cold are common. Likewise for PSI increases while driving. I don't believe this is a tire pressure monitor issue, your PSI was probably 27 after sitting overnight in 6 degree weather. You can verify with a manual gauge. Try keeping your cold pressure slightly higher than the recommended 33 in the winter. Try 35-36, this way it will only drop to 31ish during overnight in extreme cold and will keep the warning from activating. I believe the pressure needs to be 34 or above to deactivate the warning.
I know its not the tire pressure monitor system, it's just a PITA. Its way too cold to be screwing with an air pump.
Had the same issue when it started to get cold around here. I think they go on when the tires get below 30psi which I think is strange depending on temp tire pressures can vary by like +- 5psi. It was really anoying I pumped them up to 36. You have to remember that for every 10 degrees you drop in temp , you loose one pound of air. In the N.E. that can really affect you on those cold nights. I set mine once a week in the garage after sitting all night at 34 LBS.and that is it until next week regardless of what the warning says unless of course I get a flat. I don't know how one can keep up with the temp. changes.
jordo9998 01-18-2007, 12:56 PM my tire pressure sensors all went off saying my tires had 0 psi of air for all four tires!! it lasted for a day then the next mornin when i woke up it was gone. weird
At 20 degress the monitor reads at 34 psi for all 4 tires. During my 1 hour compute, I will receive a warning that all 4 tires are at 0. It seems the inverse from you guys.
TXBLU 01-24-2007, 05:38 PM I just had the right rear tire repaired (no charge at Discount Tire) for a nail stuck in it. The monitor had showed 27 PSI. When I checked the pressure with the tire guage I have used on all my racing motorcycles (very accurate), it actually had 20 PSI in it.
I have been checking the pressures manually for a while, and the sensors are all reading 1 PSI higher than what is actually in the tires. What bugs me is, that the right rear never indicated less than 27 PSI.
I will be checking all the sensors next week to see if they read down to zero, and how accurate they are accross a 0-45 PSI range. Stay tuned...

The moral of this story is not to get lulled into thinking that these things are any replacement for regularly checking your tire pressures with an accurate gauge.
