Hey guys, I've noticed 2 new problems with my beast:

1. When I floor it on occasion (either from a stop, or from like 60mph) it smells like something is burning (and not just rubber). I check the EVIC and my gauges, and nothing is out of ordinary, but it happens every time.

2. Everytime I accelerate, I hear a high pitched whine/whistle coming from the back of my car... its not easy to hear, but if i have the windows down and im in a quiet area, i can definitely hear it. It happens almost every time i step on the pedal.

These issues may have been addressed already, but I was just looking to start a thread to address both. Thanks guys.

Just the other day I got on mine and had the burning smell, smells kind of like burning rubber but it was in the car.

As for the whine, mine sounds like it is the engine breaking in still as I only have 2100 miles on it so far.

The whistle is the windshield. The dealers have tech repair notes from Jeep on how to fix it. I now have no whistles.

I forgot to say that they re-sealed it.

I get the same whine under acceleration (not the windshield whine, that only shows up above certain speeds). The acceleration whine simply happens if you open up the gas abit.

I guarantee that it's just due to the way the gears in the rear end were manufactured as the whine only appears when the system is transmitting certain amounts of force. It seems to be a high performance thing as my dads 03 Z06 has the exactly same whine.

I got used to it and actually like it now.

its def not the windshield whine.

it whines the second i step on the gas, even if its slow acceleration.

and what about the burning?!

I intially smelled the burning on my drive home from the lot when I picked mine up. I smelled it on and off again for the following month or so. It usually occurrs at speeds >75mph and around 3000 rpm. I havent smelled it in months and I have about 8000 miles on it now. I basically figured it was part of the break in period and that I was driving too hard too soon. I took it over a hundred within 5 minutes of owning it and that ws the first time I ever smelled it. Maybe this might shed some insight from one of the more technically knowledgable folks on the site.

the whine is the gears in the rear end. mine has it too. guess its normal to soem degree. My last jeep had a dana 44 as well and it always had a little whine.

I am also noticing a burning smell after running it hard. Also, after the engine is warmed up and at a idle, I am hearing a whining noise. Almost sounds like bearing noise. I am taking it into the dealer soon to have this checked out.

Its normal......its the piston jets that cool the underside of the pistons......if you want to quiet it down, next oil change switch to 15/50 Mobil 1.....

why is this site 6 months behind the blue site????

The burning could be the transmission sensor.......they leak and need a larger seal......again......problem discussed months ago on the blue site.

I have a burning smell too. Just noticed it a few days ago. It smells like burning paint to me. I didn't pay much attention to the smell untill I saw this post.

The block, heads,valvecovers,ect.........are they powdercoated or are they painted??

My dealer left all the nice plastic tags on my exhaust when I took the truck home - for the first few hundred miles, there was my burning smell. When I pulled the tags the smell was gone.

What is the "blue site" ?

the blue site is the "srt-8 forums and owners club". at least that's how I have it in my favorites. It is not jeep specific but there is a lot of good information there as well as a jeep forum as well.

I get the whine as well but I always liked it! I figure you can't transmit that much power without something whining!

Just an update on the burning smell.
I took it to the dealer and mentioned that on one of the forums there had been a discussion about a possible transmission sensor seal leak.
BINGO.
They found a leak from the transmission sensor seal and it was dripping on to the exhasut causing the burning smell.
