: 1-2 power shift hesitation
barho 09-12-2006, 12:26 PM I don't recall if a TSB was put out on this or not?
If there is one, has anyone had it perormed on their vehicle? I did a search and saw that the SRT Engineers state that the fix will reduce the overall performace, but that it is necessary.
I have only just noticed this "hesitation", but want to know if I should have the TSB (if it is even available now) performed and lose valuable performance. :(
radduc 09-12-2006, 01:10 PM I am picking up my Jeep today from the service deparment and complained about the same problem.I will let you know if they fixed it

Let me see if I understand this correctly....In order to fix a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place, the solution is to lower the performance of the vehicle overall. Am I the only one who thinks this is BOGUS.
Man, I CAN"T WAIT for the handheld programmers to hit the market.

radduc - so how did it turn out?
radduc 09-13-2006, 11:57 AM They are still working on it.Will let you know as soon as I get her back
SRTJeep 09-14-2006, 05:03 AM I spoke with the engs at the Nats about this problem. My JGC only did it twice while drag racing and at 650 miles. It hasn't ever done it again? Their feelings were it is caused by the traction control not the Tranny? Being mine only did it on a 45* day, cold track surface, and traction problems, I agree. He was going to ride with me at the Topeka Drag Strip but it wouldn't do it again?( a nice guy and folks they do care) Monkeying with unknown problems only, reprogramming the TCM only bothers me. (guessing games, sorry) I'll be racing again in a couple of weeks and then see what happens? (same track and hopefully same conditions as the first time) My JGC hasn't been back to the dealer for anything and won't until something major happens or a recall! I've had bad experiences with dealers in the past. My Experiences Only. Gene
Guero 09-18-2006, 07:56 PM I haven't really played with this to see if my Jeep does it. I guess my understanding is the problem was only in the Chargers and 300s. I know my friend's Charger does it if you get on the gas in just the right way. Can someone point to an exact source that the fix degrades performance? Otherwise it is a tad irresponsable to be stating this, if it is more rumor than fact.
radduc 09-18-2006, 08:31 PM Got the Jeep back and she ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Runs better than ever and those Headers are the BOMB!! They also flashed the trani and I no longer have the problem from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.I am going to E-Town Wed and that will be the real test.

See post # 156 in this SRT Engineers Q&A session a few months back:

radduc - good to hear, but if I have the flash performed I may say a reduction in power since I am mod-less. I am sure those headers help with any power loss after fixing the hesitation problem. It hasn't happen to me a lot as of late, so I am just going to watch it a see how things go.
radduc 09-19-2006, 07:36 AM If anything my jeep performs better

NOWHERE do they state that the new flash will result in a performance degradation.
SRTJeep 09-20-2006, 04:40 AM Does it downshift from 2 nd to 1st? Some have commented that their TCM re-flash eliminates this feature? (resonable speed in second) Gene

Maybe I am reading this wrong, but I don't think so ;)
Here is what the SRT Engineers responded with:
"The brake noise question has been answered already on this forum. A fix will be in before summer. Same with shift hesitation. We understand both issues, but implementing fixes takes time because of engineering validation, producing parts, and executing paperwork.
There is a torque interrupt on shifts for transmission durability, also. The car will be faster without it, but unfortunately it is necessary."
EDIT - I guess maybe the above is stating what is already in place on the vehicle (i.e. the torque interupt)? So maybe I was wrong. Can someone clarify this?
radduc 09-20-2006, 09:38 AM No problem down shifting from 2nd to 1st
SRTJeep 09-20-2006, 10:29 AM I just wanted the question answered nothing else. I'll be running again this Sunday, trying to get it to act up? The Eng. at the Nats (Mike) said to try shutting off the Traction Control. I'll try it and other things. (will report back) Gene
radduc 09-20-2006, 10:53 AM I thought thats what I did

Yes, they were referring to what is already in place and not what would happen with the Flash update...

Yeah, that was my take on the response as well. What they are saying is that the system uses torque reduction to prolong the life of the parts. I didn't interperet the answer to mean that the fix would degrade performance.

Yeah, my fault ;)
Thanks for the clarification guys. Guess I'll have the flash performed if I continue to see a problem.
radduc 09-21-2006, 07:54 AM Don't bother,It's doing it again. The worst part is when it needs to shift into 4th at full throttle. There is like almost a full second delay and it's very sloppy.I truly believe that it easly cost me a 1/2 second in the 1/4 mile if not more.Once someone comes out with a real tune for these Jeeps you will see them running in the 12's with very little mods.
unclgreggy 10-08-2006, 09:30 AM Where can I get info on this flash for the hesitation???

unclgreggy 10-08-2006, 04:16 PM Sorry to be a pain but which one is it? I see one for the driveline noise but not for the hesitation. What's the number???

I could not find it either, but I know it is available, because Gene and Radduc both have it.
PM Gene or Radduc
