I had a 3m clear bra put on my srt. I went with the 3m product because they claimed it was the best. When I inspected the install job there were “stretch marks” on different part of the hood. The installer said they would become less noticeable in a few weeks. Those few weeks are up and they are still there.

When I took it back they explained that the 3m product tends to have these “stretch marks” more than the others. Especially on hoods that have more dips and valley, as the srt has. I feel like I am being fed a line and I am considering having them peeling it off and going with a different shop and maybe even a different product if this is at all true.

Has any one experienced this with a 3m clear bra?

The stretch marks are permanent and it due to a bad installer. Installation is the key to making these films look good. The 3M film is the status quo (everyone uses it) but it's really the worst of the 3 that are generally available...that's not to imply it's bad, it's just the farthest from the best. Llumar looks the best, is the most optically clear and yellows the slowest but they currently have a manufacturing problem with the film that makes it have an extremely short shelf life once tension on the bulk roll is released (there is no problem if the film is installed before it buckles from from sitting on the shelf). Venture is also better then 3M...again more optically clear and yellows slower but a little harder to work with (requires a more experienced installer). I've had all three and like Llumar the best. I currently have Llumar on my SL500 and Venture on the SRT8. I will never buy another 3M kit!!!

Only installer for many miles only used 3M so I took the chance. First install had several "stretch" marks and I took it back and they redid the hood section no questions asked. I am very happy with the product and install. Can't talk about longevity as it has only been one month. Product is basically invisible and can only be seen from certain angles. Mine stays in the garage and has yet to see rain (5000 miles), so hopefully I will get a long clear life with the 3M.

You should make them redo any section your not happy with...

Does anyone know where you can buy the Lumar or Venture film at(online)? Does either company make the precut type? I just tried googling the product & cant seem to find a retailer?(just installers )

My installer commented to me about how difficult putting it on the hood was and he spent hours doing it just to be sure not to stretch the film too much as to introduce the distortion. The 3M product is weird in that it seems to get these visble marks more easily (they were all over my M3 done by a Stongard install who flew in from Atlanta to do 2 cars), or at least, I don't see marks on cars using other films but most installs I've seen of non-3M have been done by the same (fantastic) installer. My 3M on the M3 yellowed badly (white car, really obvious) and that car was a total garage queen, Stongard agreed to warranty for the yellowing but they only cover the product and $100 of the install if you aren't near a certified installer and I think it's pretty obvious that it costs alot more then $100 to get an installer to spend 4-12 hours working on your car. I sold the car and the new owner peeled the film off and didn't replace it. But my M5 had Venture and saw equal sunlight and didn't noticably change color and had no stretch marks. I'm also a big fan of custom cut kits, if you have a local installer capable and with bulk film. Precuts MUST be stretched to get them to fit right, with a good installer and bulk film he's got as much material to work with as he needs and all edges can be wrapped so the only seems that show are the back edge on the hood and fenders. There are more visible seams on the bumper, etc but the "money" view (hood/fender) is awesome this way. I welcome anyone in the Fort Worth area to come and look at what can be done with custom, no matter which brand of film you use...I've paid my custom guy far less for the 3 kits he's done for me then I paid for my Stongard precut kit and Stongard installer, YMMV.

I think it is the installer, or perhaps there are other elements at play. I've had mine 2 months, it is 3m, and it is very hard to see. It looks perfect from every angle. I had it put on prior the coating finish the dealerships offer.
