: Why do so many GCSRT8s sell early after purchase?

I'm considering an 08 SRT8. I drove and the 18yr old in my LOVED it, but the 42 year old around him is having trouble rationalizing it. The biggest thing I'm concerned about is the fact that I see so many of these vehicles for sale with less than 2000 miles on them.

Any idea why?

Are these folks shocked by the fuel mileage? Realize the ride is actually too rough to deal with? Something else?

I couldn't wipe the grin off my face while driving this thing, the sound system was great, and the deal I'm being offerred is truly outstanding, so I only need to resolve this concern.

Any thoughts?

Mine has 10,000 miles, I wouldn't trade it for anything near its price range. I can't wait to drive it everyday.

If the deal is fair, I wouldn't hesitate! Unless, you haven't checked with Don at Champion Jeep yet. He has the best deals I've seen and stands behind everything he sells, unlike some dealerships I've heard about.

I think there are alot of reasons - too much power, people get bored, not the best in class utility, not the best in class towing, not really a 4wd, but AWD, maybe the interior (altho that's been addressed).

Just remember this - it's a performance UV. An X5 with similar equipment costs you 30k more, Cayenne is at least 45k more - heck, even a loaded Taureg 2 is aroud 60, etc., with each of them getting not much better gas mileage. And that's if the ones getting rid of them even care about that. (I figure even with some additional fuel - it shouldony be about 1k more a year over what any other SUV gets in gas mileage. Offset that with the huge price differences and our cars are a bargain).

So just add up the REAL numbers, and go down your check list of other items important to you.

Then look in this forum at my recenty posted SRT Track Video.

Your answer will appear.

I'd love to support Don, but being in Canada seems to complicate the warranty quite a bit (i.e. I don't get one on a US vehicle!). That said, this deal on a percentage basis appears to be equal to or slightly better than what I've seen quoted on the forums, so I'm happy with the deal (ecstatic, actually!).

The fully loaded 08 is $50,500 CDN, down from sticker of $63,000. I actually don't know how they can do it, but they have an 07 and an 08 at a small dealership, and they want them gone. Works for me!

That said, the best deal in the world doesn't matter if I'll be regretting it in six months. I would just like to understand why some folks bail out so soon.

I've had mine for 18 mos. & 7K miles. I'm selling to get an '08 Vette. In my case it has to do with becoming the "taxi". I end up picking everyone else up, mostly from the airport. It costs my wife and I $100 round-trip to the airport, but relatives, friends, et all EXPECT it free. + we are giving them a FREE room. Screw that... from now on I'll tell 'em to get a cab, rent a car, etc. because I only have a 2-seater. My wife's car is a 2-seater too.

I LOVE THE JEEP. Most fun car I have ever owned, and I've had 42.

I had mine for 18 months and 20K miles before selling. It was my daily driver. For me, the main reason was we had our third child a little over 1 year after buying. My kids are all under 5 and need car seats or boosters and they wouldn't fit in the back seat. If the kids were older and out of car seats, it would not have been an issue. So I sold back in Oct for a vehicle with more room. While I do miss the Jeep SRT8 terribly, the sale had to happen for the family. The only thing I don't miss is all the trips to the dealer with issues. Many of which I've come to realize were probably due to the dealer not knowing how to fix things the first time. That is what I would caution you on the most. Find a good dealer who knows SRT8 vehicles. Mine was clueless. Good luck.

By the way, the 2008 Pathfinder (seats 7) with the 5.6 gets the same gas mileage as the Jeep SRT8. At least with the Jeep the gas costs equaled driving entertainment. With the Path, there is zero thrill. It was significantly better in the snow than the Jeep during a recent storm. Maybe that's the only other plus in addition to a $100 lower monthly payment.

I don't think the numbers are much different from any other type of specialty vehicle, lots of reasons people change their mind, and some also end up with financial issues and are forced to sell. The overwhelming majority of owners are more than satisfied with their purchase. After two years of ownership ('06 then traded for '08) the "fun factor" is still off the charts!

Another reason I think is that people don't realize what they are buying. The see the Jeep love the looks and impulse buy before they realize what the SRT is all about. (High performance SUV)

I love the way it drives but the little problems get to me and I have considered trading it for something more reliable. My Honda 2005 S2000, 2004 Infiniti G35x and 2006 Honda Goldwing have never been back to the dealer for any problems at all except regular maintenance in the combined 8 years of ownership but my SRT8 has been in the dealer 6 times for little problems (brake recall, transmission reflash, and 4 times for the window regulators) in 6 months of ownership. If Jeep could get a handle on this kind of problem I think you would see a lot better owner satisfaction.

I have had mine for a year and a half, 13,000 miles, and almost no issues. I love the power, and don't care about the mileage. I plan on keeping it for a long time!

I like to think I'm going in "eyes wide open". I had several turbo buicks, and just sold my last GN in the Spring, so I get the performance car thing (and the finicky, specialty nature of vehicles like these). This truck is just worlds beyond what the GN was in terms of 0-60, and pretty darn close in the 1/4 (GN was mildly modified - 12.90s). Inside, well, there's just no comparison, the SRT wins in every way.

I've got a call to make Monday morning! :D

I have had my cherokee SRT8 for almost 2 weeks now...Its pretty much what I expected- I still can't believe how it sounds/accelerates/rides for a stock suv....I am only 9 miles from work each way and in just this short time, i do notice the gas tank is at least 10 gallons too small- it does make it not so painfill to fill up but you can almost watch the guage move while driving. yea, it rides rough but I like it that way and its quite loud when getting into the power. Most people don't care for the sound/ride/mileage for the premium price- I feel there are only a handful who even care what they drive. This is the first vehicle I have bought that I haven't started modifying everything- Its real good the way it is! Oh, and another thing, tire replacement isn't cheap either, we aren't talking $450 for 4 tires mounted and balanced! I would say the reasons are:
fuel cost/tight rear seating area/tire replacement/ride qualtiy/exhaust loudness.
I guess people don't realize this is a serious performance machine....

A LOT of people in our modern society make purchases of vehicles and other things as a status symbol even though they are in way over their heads. For example, they purchase the SRT-8 because they think it makes them look more wealthy than they are and when they realize they are deep into debt because of their stupidity (a few months after purchase) they are forced to sell now that they have already lost their shirt. I win.
