OK,

I'm a little confused on HID bulb nomenclature. Is a D2R the same thing as a 9006? Is the D2R a subcategory of 9006? In another thread a while back I saw someone mention that we should get the D2R bulb, but then most online stores don't seem to offer it whereas everybody sells a 9006 kit.

I'm looking to replace the low beams with a 5000k HID setup. I've got 6000k bulbs on another car right now, and I think they're a little too blue for my taste.

Cheers!

D2R is a type of xenon bulb that is used mostly in cars that come from the factory with a low-beam xenon system. D2R bulbs are mostly made by Philips and are very high quality, so a few companies take an actual D2R bulb and modify it to fit inside regular headlights that use a 9006 bulb in order to create a higher quality system.

There is also the D2S bulb but those are for high beams so they're used for modifying into a 9005 bulb.

If you're just buying a regular xenon kit all you need is the 9006 version, don't worry about D2R

Just to be accurate, D2S bulbs are also used exclusively for xenon and bixenon headlight projectors.

Thanks! I'll stick with a 9006 kit then.
