: Blind Monkeys work at Chrysler....
SRT8Girl12 12-21-2007, 10:40 PM Yes, that's right, they do. Don't get me wrong, I love my SRT8 and would never ever get rid of it, but some things worry me...So tonight I was standing next to my car pumping gas and just admiring it, making sure the paint was good with no defects, and then I noticed something....I got really close and sure enough, there is a f***ing hair in the paint!! It isn't a long strand, but it is definitely a hair...What the hell?? How doest this get past inspection?? I mean, no one is going to notice it but me, but that makes me mad...So, question for you guys. Can I make the stealership fix this?? Do I even want to?? Anyway, just needed to vent...:bangin::mecry:
bridam 12-21-2007, 10:43 PM Don't want to mess with your paint for that
OurZoo 12-21-2007, 10:45 PM This is the second blind monkey thread, yet appropriate. It just stopped raining yesterday. Did you give her a bath today? (The car you perverts) You said you saw it at night? Are you sure? I'd definitely take it to the dealer where you bought her and start kicking and screaming until you get tasered.
SRT8Girl12 12-21-2007, 10:54 PM I gave her a bath right after it rained...I even had a towel in my car and wiped it down in the area, and it definitely wasn't going anywhere...Also, I was under the blinding lights at the gas station, so it wasn't dark...I mean, it's not just in the clear coat, it's under the black too...But I don't want them to have to paint that whole panel just for that, even though it should be fixed, so I don't know what to do...
OurZoo 12-21-2007, 10:57 PM I wouldn't have them mess with it either, but I would show it to them.
Razorecko 12-21-2007, 10:59 PM I gave her a bath right after it rained...I even had a towel in my car and wiped it down in the area, and it definitely wasn't going anywhere...Also, I was under the blinding lights at the gas station, so it wasn't dark...I mean, it's not just in the clear coat, it's under the black too...But I don't want them to have to paint that whole panel just for that, even though it should be fixed, so I don't know what to do...
suck it up, odds are if they repaint it -it'll be a bad job and than everyone will be able to see that. At least now only you and the people you point it out to you will see it.

I would not let them touch the pait, all the stealership will do is make it worse. I think Jeep does not keep their painting bays clean, I have found a few areas with objects under the clear coat. Mostly what appears to be dirt.
SRT-MANA 12-22-2007, 12:53 AM The dealership will seek the cheapest fix pos. if they don't have a paint shop then they will sublet out & go with the cheapest guy...your better off dealing with it..
SRT8Girl12 12-22-2007, 01:32 AM Ya, I think I'm gonna just deal with it. The only person who is going to be able to tell it's there is me, unless I point it out. But seriously, Chrysler needs to step it up, especially for a 45K vehicle...
sy1616 12-22-2007, 04:03 AM Just imagine some hot chick was admiring your truck when it was being made and got too close.... :)
toothdoc 12-22-2007, 08:45 AM too bad they don't put in trunk monkeys

shodanusmc 12-22-2007, 09:14 AM The hair is nothing. If you check real close you will find dirt in the paint, grit in the paint, fisheyes, bubbles, orange peel and different shades of paint.
If you have them fix it, it will no doubt be worse. Besides, they have to take digital pictures prior to getting the autherization to fix....and they will say it is your hair!

Thats funny! I was thinking of the same thing!

ram_g 12-22-2007, 10:58 AM I have a line of bubbles on my right side fender, near the door. Small but very visible. My reaction was similar - shock that it would pass inspection like that - no other car that I've ever owned has had such a blatant "sample defect".
I have chosen to ignore it for now because the fix will be long and tortous and may be worse than now. I may get to it myself with careful wet sanding if I am motivated enough.

Towel?..Your gunna scratch it.
SRT8Girl12 12-22-2007, 03:14 PM Towel?..Your gunna scratch it.
No, not a normal towel, ones made to wash and dry the car. I'm no idiot...Man, you can't say anything wrong on this forum without getting torn apart, huh?? :twak::simmadown:
DABEARS1 12-22-2007, 08:20 PM What do you think we go over the paint with a magnifying glass??? If you want an absolute perfect vehicle then it would over $100k like the viper plant where the line stops then the employees do their job then start the line again. Our paint inspectors only have 42 seconds to look over entire car.... Yes it shouldn't be there, but you also didn't notice it when you picked up your new jeep either, thats when you really should of noticed it...
SRTYA 12-22-2007, 08:27 PM 100k + cars are not always that much better when it comes to paint. The guy I use when I have my cars detailed used to work at the local Bentley / Lamborghini dealer. You should here the stories he tells about the paint on most of those cars that would arrive from the factory. He would labor for days on each one just to get the paint in shape. And those are brand new factory fresh cars.
SRT8Girl12 12-22-2007, 08:33 PM Well, my 99 M3 brand new cost about the same as this does, and the paint was pretty darn good. I understand the paint isn't going to be perfect, no matter what car. But a hair?? Come on now...

Just wash that section with shampoo and you should be fine. ;):D
DC SRT8 12-22-2007, 09:17 PM I guess you'll now have to use Zaino plus bikini wax! :D

Sorry, I don't buy this BS.
I wonder if you have recently checked the paint quality on other $40K vehicles, no let's say $30K vehicles. Let's even say we're only considering domestic brands (I don't know why, but let's say this for arguments sake). The paint quality on our 2007 Ford Expedition is 100% better than on the 2008 Jeep.
Jeep/Chrysler really need to get their act together on this, without lame excuses.

I agree .. the last time I went to a Chinese restaurant and found a hair in my kung poa chicken I got grossed out and never went back. :D

BS... if you spent more time improving your workmanship on the line and less time defending poor workmanship, you'd have more customers on the lot purchasing Chrysler products.
Maybe you guys need to take lessons from Toyota/Lexus how to spray sheet metal .. the paint on a $50K Lexus is absolutely perfect.

I don't think you guys understand me... Do i want the vehicle to be perfect for the customer...YES!! Is it possible not 100% as you can read above from much more expensive models.... And with all the job cuts and the do more with less mentality it will never be perfect... Not the workers fault when
when jobs are cut... All about profit...
When I picked up mine it had a glob of sealer showing from under the belt molding, I showed them during my inspection and they were going to fix it, but I didn't want to wait, so I did it myself....

If they hand spray sheet metal at Toyota/Lexus they are behind the times, ours are all done by robots!!!!

I was at a light the other day by a gm dealer, and a Denali pulled up beside me brand new dealer plate, all black and shiny.... So i was checking it out all good till the rear door, it had the worse orange peel I had ever seen..
DABEARS1 12-23-2007, 07:39 AM And to call all chrysler workers blind monkey's cause a little hair got by??? When you yourself didn't see it during your inspection, which I'm sure you had more then 42 seconds to look at it...

Come on now you're deflecting again .. take ownership of your process and customer feedback...
I didn't say anything about hand spraying.. I've been in manufacturing for over 30 years... 20 of those using JIT/TQM and SPC techniques. In 1987 my customer quality benchmark was 9,800 PPM and now my folks are shipping product at 2 PPM.
If you've been around long enough you'll know it's now called LEAN Six Sigma... and if Chrysler, the UAW and production employees aren't engaged in using these tools then I'm sad to learn you're 20 years behind the times.
Automation is your friend.. robots can spray a vehicle more consistent than a human -- maybe you need to review your change over, process control and maintenance procedures.
And use some hair nets ..
Is the hair in the clear or base coat? If it's in the clear you may be able to get it repaired to look much better.
Don't tase me bro. :eyemouth:

Perhaps you could print out this thread and take it to your factory manager...

Agreed. The paint sucks on these.
Razorecko 12-23-2007, 03:41 PM I had a 2002 infiniti qx4 and the black on that car was perfect, deep black in color and absolutely no imperfections. And the clear coat on tha car was hard as a rock. I have to say that i haven't even seen orange peel on vehicles untill the past few years.
zombie 12-23-2007, 04:01 PM I have a 2007 in Red Rock Crystal that has 3 spots on the body without any Red Rock Crystal on them - only clear coat over primer. It's the worst factory paint job I've ever seen. None of the Japanese vehicles I have owned have ever approached this level of crappy paint and if it wasn't such an awesome driving machine I would have traded it for something with better quality control.
a990dna 12-24-2007, 10:07 PM Paint shop changes also contributed to plant flexibility. The plant launch team added new robotics, especially changing the sprayers in the paint booths to allow for greater coverage of paint on varying body styles. The new technology will also enhance the paint finish on the Grand Cherokee.
I can't believe what I'm reading .. found this on WK Jeeps.com. It's obvious their new program isn't working.

My paint sucks. Orange peel, some spots are not shiny.
Whatever. I'll probably just wreck it anyways... It's not going to Pebble Beach anytime soon.
