: New England SNOW SNOW SNOW! Help please
RicksJeepSRT8 12-20-2007, 01:18 PM Living here In New England is not what the SRT8 was made for, We know this already.. I'm the guy that has to drive this Jeep in the Snow... So other night, In a snow storm, I managed to go off the road and Rip my front bumper clean off.. and bust a windshield washer pump..(The pumps been on back order for over a week already.) I got the "No one is the Nation has the pump in stock" Thats crazy in it self.
With that said, I would love to Find some Wheel/Snow tire Package, or at the least, some Decent all season tires to fit the 20's. If anyone knows a place to find anything to help it would be great.
Thank you
-Rick
bridam 12-20-2007, 01:49 PM Do a search. There was a thread about winter/wheel packages.
bridam 12-20-2007, 01:50 PM Is that why the picture is of the back of your jeep? :)
OurZoo 12-20-2007, 04:54 PM Sorry to hear about the accident brotha!
jayzstang 12-20-2007, 09:10 PM Hi Rick. I live in Salem, NH and also have a black GCSRT8. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but how the hell did you manage to go off the road? Was it someone else that caused this? I have the stock wheels and tires too. My wife and i have been driving around in this crap also but i was actually surprised how well it did, especially today. My old man has a AWD Explorer which i was supposed to take on an errand today but after driving that thing for a short distance i parked it, hopped in the Jeep instead, and drove an hour away with no problems. His tires are a bit worn down (25k) but i felt WAY more confident in the Jeep. Weird huh?
As far as winter tire options...or lack of. Here are some of your choices (that i know of ).
1. 18'' Alba 107's will fit perfect.....but anyone i have talked to says that they are on back order and nobody knows when they'll be in. I think they're a silver painted finish.
$1,800ish
2. 17'' Dodge Intrepid wheels should work with the correct size spacers also. The ones I saw are chrome too.
Not too sure on the price though.
3. 20'' Snow tires are an option also but good luck finding a set in the right sizes due to the staggered rim size.
I got quoted something like $1100 just for the tires and no TPS sensors.
Thats all i personally know of. I tried Tirerack and a local Town Fair Tire and got no help at those two places. They said they don't carry Alba's and the 20'' snow tires were not going to be in for a couple months. BS huh?
That my friend leaves us with the Intrepid wheel option w/ spacers.
To my knowledge....thats it. I'm leaving mine stock for now until i can get pricing on option 2 or the Alba's are avail.
Try searching, thats how i found those options.
Hope this helps.
MoparNut 12-20-2007, 09:23 PM Hey!!
The setup you can get for the 18" Alba 107's with tire should run you 1800. I paid 1790 out the door installed with tps. Here are some pictures. I put on Nitto Terra grapplers 255/55 this combo is the exact diameter of our stock wheels and then you can save your stock wheels from getting abused. Even with this setup, you'll get a few seasons out of them since you can rotate properly since they aren't directional. You can get the Alba's from Wheel Pro in CA. Just call your wheel guy to help you out. The Nitto's were going for 134 ea but I think you can still get them for 151 from Discount Tire Direct. Happy Holidays!!!!

jayzstang 12-20-2007, 09:40 PM Paul....your the balls.
gpfarrell 12-20-2007, 09:53 PM I'm sorry you wrecked your ride.
I've had rwd, fwd, and 4wd cars & trucks. I've used performance tires (useless), all-seasons, and dedicated snow tires on a variety of vehicles.
I find the Jeep on stock tires to be incredible. Faultless? No, that's why we all need to slow down a bit in the snow.
I have had vehicles that are worthless without snowtires... like my 450 horsepower Marauder or a 5.0 Mustang. Snowtires can offer an incredible improvement to some vehicles, but I don't think you'll find much improvement in the Jeep... it's already very good.
I'm sure snowtires would help, but I think if you need snowtires on an SRT8 you're just trying to drive too fast for conditions.
Again, I'm sorry you wrecked your ride. I'm not sure that spending $2k on snowtires will keep it from happening again. Nature's a mother... sometimes we need to slow down.
jayzstang 12-20-2007, 10:02 PM well said. If it was his fault.
My driveway is long, has a fairly steep grade, and it gets icy...no problems here. As a matter of fact i watched my wife back it all the way up the driveway after getting the mail ,snow covered and all. I was plowing my neighbors driveway before i got to mine.
MoparNut 12-20-2007, 10:26 PM Hey!!
Well, I've driven in the snow forever and most of my cars were just rw drive and all high performance. I managed without any problems by driving much slower but with AWD it's great and thats what the rest of my vehicles have been. Though, I disagree with you about our stock runflats. They basically suck and ditched them asap. I hate them on the dry roads so why would anyone want to use them in the snow. They ride hard and wear fast. Using a non runflat high performance tire is the way to go. A way much better ride all around. If you're in snow country then having a snow tire is much better than stock even if they are Blizzaks, etc... I chose Nitto's. For the type of tire it is. It's awesome. I've used them on all my trucks/suv's. Great in the snow, sand, wet & even dry. I've driven 100mph on these babies up & down the east coast without having any regrets plus why would anyone want to abuse our expensive stock wheels from the winter salt & sand. Like I said before, for the 1790 I spent which if you think about it, is cheap when I'll get 3 seasons out of my Nittos since they can be properly rotated plus save my other wheels from damage plus not driving on my high performance tires too will wear less all around and get more time out of them. So, the way I look at it.........it's a win win situation.
