: Speeding Ticket Update
AGray34 12-19-2007, 04:04 PM I posted a while back that I got a ticket. It was for 55 in a 30, and was LIDAR. Shockingly enough, when the officer showed up to court today, he couldnt remember any specific details of the stop, show proof he lasered me, etc. All in all, ticket was DROPPED. I believe there were a bunch of guys posting up telling me I didnt stand a chance.....hmmm....Just thought it was good to advice other members of the site to listen to multiple opinions before some of those guys who claimed in my previous post "I am a cop yada yada yada your screwed with the ticket" For now, good guys +1, cops writing fake tickets 0

If you think about it, LEO's write hundreds of tickets a month. Go back and try to recollect the store clerk of the shop you visited 30 days ago...can you think of it? What did they look like? What did you buy?
No put yourself in the LEO's position, its not so easy to remember who you were anymore, also considering you may have been extremely boring so there wasn't much to remember. But who knows. Chances are, he clocked you at whatever speed you were going (I cant remember what your former post said), and your V1 didn't go off. You also stated that you slowed down when you saw him, but he may have seen you first, and it takes about 1.9 seconds for a laser gun to get a reading at 500 feet. Laser, or lidar, is also a very narrow straight beam that no detector will pick up until its too late. Radar however, is spread out into long wave lengths that can be detected up to a few miles. Laser is also more accurate than radar. And, the distance he put on your ticket was how far away he tagged you at
So, you were speeding but you are in denial. You had a lawyer who sounded to me clueless. There is no print out from laser guns, laser guns are pointed through a scope directly at your car so that eliminates any error about targeting, and LEO's show up in court 90% of the time.
This is all based from your past post about your ticket, and Im not trying to be a jerk, but rather inform you of the truth.
You got very lucky with this one, but don't expect to get out of your next laser ticket.
mortimer 03-10-2008, 01:46 AM Wow, wish you guys had it as easy as I do here.
Step 1: Speed. Or run a red light. Or forget to stop at a stop sign. Smoke your tires pulling out of a 7-11 'cause it's fun. Whatever.
Step 2: Get a ticket for doing this.
Step 3: Visit the courthouse, tell them you want to contest. They set a court date in 2-3 weeks.
Step 4: Show up in court. Tell the DA you want the ticket removed from your record so it doesn't affect your insurance. They drop the charge to "Inattentive driving" which is a higher fine but it's not a moving violation, and doesn't jack up your insurance.
Step 5: Pay $125 ($85 ticket plus $40 court cost).
I do this at least a couple times a year. Wastes a 1/2 day in court, costs $125 but worth it to keep my insurance from going up. Works *every* time for city cops. People here pay $hundreds$ to attourneys around here to "take care of tickets" for them. No one realizes it's so easy to do yourself! All you have to do is ask!
If you're unlucky enough to get pulled over by a county or state trooper, however, it's a COMPLETELY different story . . .
I live in Wichita, KS btw.

That is smart. Do you tell the cop that you are recording what he says?

Be careful...there are strict laws about recording conversations without permission...especially law enforcement!

In Michigan laws are strange. Only one person in the conversation needs to agree to record it. if you are doing the recording and you agree ;) you are good to go!
promo718 03-11-2008, 08:34 AM you got lucky buddy. i'm very surprised the cop didn't just make up all the details on the spot. remember, he's a representative of the law, and as such everything he testifies to is presumed by the judge to be the truth. i've had officers flat out lie on the stand in many cases. there's nothing you can do.
veyronSRT8@TTCreations 03-11-2008, 08:37 AM damn dog, nice for you. i swear they must not remember the small tickets. lol thinkin they are more likely to remember a 140 in a 55. ;) i NEVER get lucky when it comes to getting out of a ticket, that is until recently (keeping fingers crossed) funny thing is that i have always had slower jeeps and now that i got the srt8 i have managed to keep my license for the longest period of time now (2 yrs. ;)) not sure what's going on here, maybe they just love this thing.

I am assuming that you are referring to conversations that are recorded from telephone/radio. Recording conversations in person has always been legal and requires no permission, disclosure, court order or warrant. It all boils down to expectation of privacy. There is none for an in-person conversation in a public place.
The FCC bars recording of phone conversations and radio conversations without disclosure and acceptance by all parties unless authorized by a court order, warrant, or the Patriot Act.
