Transmission Cooler Install (Paramount Performance Products)How To

Ok, So I decided to install a Converter, Flywheel (flex plate) and cooler by myself at home using basic tools.

I contacted Builder Bill and He took my information so he could design the three mentioned items (no affiliation with the company or discounts, so I am just a normal customer paying full price). the transmission R&R, converter and flywheel took me about ten hours by myself, with a small case of turrets on my part so there are no Damn pictures.

I did manage to calm down (thank God for sweet delicious beer) and decided to document the cooler install. so here it goes.

I decided to delete the factory cooler and install the cooler at the rear of the jeep. after a lot of head scratching and development of a list for the items I needed, I placed an order to obtain my parts (AN fittings and hoses).

In progress,

2006 Black GCSRT8,

It will take me a while to figure out how to post these photos. please be patient.

All you really need is Paramount Performance Products Transmission cooler. It has all the hoses and fittings needed to do this except one piece of 2x4" angle and a couple of bolts.

I wanted different lines so here goes. I used Russell Fittings, there are others that are less expensive.

  • Transmission Cooler kit, code # 13960
  • 2, -8 flare to 1/2 npt, #660493
  • 2, -8 45* hose ends, #610105
  • 1, -8 90* hose end, #610175
  • 1, -8 120* hose end, #613415
  • 30', -8 hose, (I used pro race hose)
  • 1, 3' long 2x4" angle, I used aluminum
  • 1, 5/16" x 3.5" bolt, nut, and 2 washers
  • 4, 5/16 x 1", bolt, nut s and washers
  • 3 quarts of ATF

The cooler is mounted outboard of the crash box as far to the rear and as high as possible as possible. I made brackets out of 2 by 4 inch aluminum.

Install the 1/2 inch side of the fitting with a liquid thread sealant (used Loctite 567) into the transmission here (near the bell housing where the factory cooling line was).

Similar setup as the passenger side except I used a 90 degree -8 hose end

Run the two -8 hoses over the top of the transmission and to the rear of the truck inside of the gas tank brackets (there is plenty of space between the gas tank and the gas tank mounting brackets) closest to the rear drive shaft tunnel.
