Installed a custom Frank Racing Inc. intake to aid in the heat soak issue. The intake is teflon coated on the interior and thick ceramic coated (polished to a luster) on the exterior, the difference is certianly measurable. I'm pleased with the overall look and efficiency. Intake was installed using PPP composite gaskets to aid in heat transfer(from heads to intake). Figured I would pass it along.
Stock intake @ 203 coolant temp(after 15 mile drive @ 65* ambient temp) 181* @ base of intake. To hot to touch top. View attachment 1061
Coated intake @ 205 coolant temp (after 28 mile drive@ 69* ambient temp)
156* @ base of intake. Can touch top now.(about 110*) View attachment 1062View attachment 1067
The intake will not make anymore power than stock, however at high temps it should help preserve it by reducing heat soak. Additional pics. View attachment 1065View attachment 1064
This took awhile to put together and limited to 5 pics, If interested F.R.I. can be found on the LX forums, send em a PM. Enjoy!
GC,
Intake looks great.
Just one more thing on the long list. LOL.
Nice post, noticed the "addition" on the intake tube. Hemi's do hate heat don't they.

I thought the Teflon was to aid in airflow, thus increasing power... maybe I'm wrong on that though. ???
BTW what the heck is that weird looking heat shield wrapped around your intake tube? Looks like Shaquille O'Neal's shoe. Did you have that when you ran the 105 mph? (ie does it help?)

Rain, U guessed it, it's Shaq's shoe, He was pretty pissed off when I ran courtside, did my dip & weave move on him to get it. You know, he is pretty slow and can't shoot free throws. Teflon reduces drag, but to say it will increase power, I dunno, the jury's still out. Yes, I have always had the heat sheilds, IAT sheilds, etc. I would have to say yes, It does help. The Hemi does not like excessive heat.

It's fabed from a generic tuner heat sheild.(available from jegs/summit) Sewing is involed to get it to look good and fit right, underneath it is a moded airaid tube.
