This noise is almost identical to the topic posted about the tin metal noise. I can post a video for y'all to hear it. It has came and went as I've owned the grand Cherokee. Currently it's been present for a couple thousand miles and is driving me nuts. It's sometimes at idle and between 900-2000 rpms. Multiple techs have told me the motor needs to be rebuilt but with 92k on it it's hard for me to believe. Service records show the oil changed every 3k and I have religiously changed it around 3k on my own. Oil pressure good, it drives normal, and it happens when the jeep is heated up. Also I may have slightly overfilled the oil but it's not but 1/32 or 1/16 of an inch above the safe level. I really would appreciate some input from an experienced owner or tech. If anyone is from the central Arkansas area let me know of a good tech to have look at it! Thanks
I would suggest posting a video so we can hear the noise. It could be lifters, or the beginning of a rod issue. Who did you take it to that listened to it and stated a rebuild? Was this a used vehicle or have you owned it from day one?
Theres a few things it can be,rods, lifters, valves, exhaust manifold, rollers. I had a tick that sounded like an exhaust leak and looked at everything, couldnt find what it was. I beleive it was my valve tapping the head on the way up,but have since got rid of jeep
Sadly the farthest any techs have wanted to go in the central Arkansas area had been listening to every part of the motor with a stethoscope and removing the belt. Nobody wants to touch the inside of my motor because they fear it's too complicated, they just have said stuff like get a new motor and we'll drop it in or get a machine shop to rebuild it. The jeep drives fine other than it bottoming out because I need new bump stops and the famous 70mph shimmy that will probably be fixed with road force balancing. I may be forced to drive it until something breaks unless I can find a good mopar mechanic that's willing to work on it. I will post a video though
I'm lost on this your dealership techs should have a lead that knows trans and engine rebuilds. All five star jeep dealers do, required. I'm not sure why they have not spoken to,you about a diagnostic teardown either long block or short, or both. This would include a flat rate of hours of diagnostic... With the added benefit if items need to be repaired the cost of breakdown is taken off the bill if not covered under warranty.
Basically as long as you did not run it dry, or suck up water your warranty will cover the repair. They will just have you sign that you are responsible for payment if not covered under warnty, of if you have non.
Sadly I do not have a warranty so the dealership will bleed me dry, I just can't find anyone with knowledge in the central Arkansas area that understands these motors. Which is retarted...
Even at a Jeep dealer service location? I'm not sure if younger a built to stock motor. If it's built I can understand the hesitation... As I would not trust any one who doesn't have the build info (spec sheets) and then works on it... But if it's a stock motor via Srt... Then the techs should be able to service... No?
I can feel, your frustration... Either way... You have two options...one since it's not hindering your driving/proformance... Just drive watch the oil (take an oil sample and send to black stone- they can give you an inside peak that can lead in the right direction) plus min cost....
Two pull the motor and send it to one of our builders to refresh-- this can be done now or later-- I would recommend
Demon, modern, or go right to BES as they are closer to you...
Regardless I would def do an oil sample test... Please keep us updated and best of luck... I was there once.. Had a blown Srt motor... So know your pain...
