Put in 195 thermo, now car tuns hotter

before it would sit at 215, now it hangs between 230-240, almost in the red. All I did was replace the stat with Stant 14429, which is a 195 degree part. It fit perfect, though the internals were nothing like the stocker. there was minimal coolant loss so I didnt add any. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

You should have lost 1/3 to 1/2 gallon of coolant & should have added it back until it was completely full again. It sounds as if it is possible your coolant level was low before you started.

Also, you should make sure there is no air in any of the coolant hoses. By squeezing the hoses you can "burp" the system.

did it this AM. worked well, she now runs about 8 degrees cooler. I actually did burp the pipe and purged some air out. Went for a 60-mile cruise today with an average 15.7 mpg.
