Ralph Gilles big fat liar

What a liar good old --- Ralph Gilles is. After calling out Mitt Romney over Jeep building vehicles in China, here is what a local TV station has to say.

DETROIT (AP) -- The head of Chrysler LLC's Jeep brand says the company is in talks to build some of its vehicles in China for that market.

Jeep's President and CEO Mike Manley told reporters during press previews for the North American International Auto Show in Detroit that any production would be "relatively incremental." Jeep sells several models in China, including the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and Compass.

Are there any honest people left in the world today?

This has been known. Jeep had a plant over there but closed when Chrylser filed bankruptcy. Sergio (head of Fiat, which owns Jeep), stated that they would be re-opening that plant to build vehicles for that market. They aren't moving production from the states to China. Its cheaper to build them there than ship from here to there. It's similar to what Honda, Nissan, BMW, etc are already doing with plants here.

Gilles was honest. He was responding to statements that were designed to make people believe that Chrysler would lay off U.S. workers and replace them with Chinese workers.

His response was intended to correct those statements by making it clear that the U.S. workers would continue to be employed and that, in addition, Chinese workers would be added.

They really have no choice if they want to get into that market & sell cars there. China is probably the fastest growing market currently & they place huge import taxes on cars not built there. So the only way to really get into the game over there is build them there. Its not like they are going to move SRT operations over there & import them back into the US.

Land Rover is reported to be building a factory in China also. It is expensive to import vehicles there, so it makes economic sense. In the UK Jaguar/ Land Rover have today announced the China link up and 800 extra jobs for the UK market.

All semantics. If they are selling ANY Jeeps in China today that are made in US and they start building Jeeps in China to sell in China, then they are "moving" current US production to China. The only dispute is to what extent.

I call that good business sense for a company that is trying to move away from a recent bankruptcy. It doesn't make sense to build them here and sell there if they can cut out the shipping and make them there. So Ed....don't believe everything you hear or watch, unless its in the internet! Then it has to be true!

Don't forget, to do business in china you need to have a certain percentage of your vehicles built in china.
