Well someone had to be the first one...

To break something on their WK2 that is. I broke an axle last week, front drivers side to be exact. Broke the cv joint closest to the front diff. I launched it hard, revved it to about 1100 and let off the brake and slammed the gas. It hooked good and I heard a pop. Thought it was a rock hitting the fenders or something, got up to about 60-65 and got a really bad vibration, almost like you have a flat tire, that didn't go away. So I limped it home put it up on jack stands and spun the front wheel. You can see the joint not spin perfect it's more oblong shape. Had it towed to the dealer this morning, they won't have an axle till Monday. They said they are gonna put a rush on shipping so it will hopefully be here sooner. I'm hoping this won't be a normal thing and maybe mine was just defective. I did this on the stock 3 season pirellis, definitely gonna be nervous though from now on especially when I go to the track. I don't want to worry about getting a tow and I don't know how many times the dealer will replace the axle. So be careful as we really don't know what the limits are yet, I expected the tranny to go, not an axle.

I would say maybe a fluke?

I've put mine through hell at a track session and in general on the streets. You think the lowering may have any effect on the axel?

I saw something was up with your Jeep but was waiting for you to post up. Best of luck with a speedy repair. Dealer gave no issue with warranty work?

no no issue, didnt want to post anyting till after I got it in there. Im hoping its a fluke also. as far as lowering, I dont think it had anything to do with that. didnt have any issues this whole week, then launched it hard and boom broke. everything was good when we put it back together, no sharp or weird angles on anything. I have heard it normally happens on the passenger side since its longer but the drivers side is our driving side.

Well john dont let this get you gun shy as it was probably a bad shaft to start with. Remember theres no posi in the front diff and the left front is the drive wheel.

so was there any damage to the boot around the CV joint? Maybe a prior issue with the boot not being sealed or cracked and the grease getting out, or debris in?

nope boot was perfect, but when I checked it after it happened there is a small hole and grease leaking out. Had a glob about the size of a dime sitting on the boot. I dont have many miles on her yet, just hit 2700.
