A little background: (2014 srt)
First I went from stock exhaust to removing the center suitcase muffler. This sounded great, and I highly recommend as a cheap exhaust modification without having to spend a grand on a cat back.
Then I got some "Go Fast Parts" put on including stainless Works headers with high-flow cats. This made the exhaust about twice as loud as before and was not desirable by my wife
(waking kids up in AM when cold starting)
Purchased a used suitcase Muffler to put back on (because I threw my original one away). Installed that and had instant regret because it was essentially back to stock again and pretty quiet.
Learned about xforce varex variable exhaust and found the solution to my problem of wanting both quiet at home and on the highway, but loud when I want to turn things up.
Installed two varex mufflers (replacing the rear resonators), dual control module, and Smart Box (Bluetooth controller). This improved the sound but was not loud enough in open mode to justify the cost. (~$950)
Went back in today and had them remove the center suitcase Muffler (again!) Now it is as loud as it was when I had to quiet down comma however now I have control over the volume through the Smart Box (app on phone) where I can open the valves from zero to 100%.
I haven't installed the GPS receiver or ODBC cable yet that came with the Smart Box but those will automatically quiet the truck down when I'm approaching my neighborhood, and open things up automatically when I get on the throttle but keep it quiet when cruising. Pretty cool Tech!
Sorry for the long post, just trying to save others time who are interested in a similar custom variable setup.
* one disclaimer, I found out that they are soon to be releasing a full varex Cat-Back system for those that want a bolt on option.
