SC'd using HP Tuners or CMR/Diablo

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the lack of updates.

To refresh, I'm now on E85 full time with my 2014 GC SRT RIPP SC Stage 2 with Forged pistons. It's tuned with HP Tuners making 609 AWHP on AWD Dyno.

Daily drives pretty good, however, I am having quite a bit of torque management problems, mostly when punching it from the lower gears in auto mode. Rolling into the throttle isn't an issue, but launching really is.

This is the second time it was tuned with HP tuners. First on 91 octane, and now on E85. I am thinking it's the tuner at this point.

Tuner says there just aren't enough TQ tables provided from HP Tuners to do any better.

Should I try someone else? Should I try CMR Diablo? Anybody know someone in Arizona.

Getting frustrated.

Johan does mine. Drives stock - runs 11.6. No codes or issues. I went with him because of all the help everyone gave me and suggested either Johan or Jersey Boy. I’m sure there are others but Johan gets right back to me within 12 hours or sooner usually, knows his stuff, does a good job, is reasonably priced and I like him. :)

Johan just did mine! Can't say enough good things about him!

I would have preferred someone local so they can drive/dyno/ and reprogram all at once, but it looks like the air tuner guys have had the greatest successes.

Johan and jerseyboy - Is that their handle on here?

^ bolt ons BJB? ...lol...show off...that’s awesome! IMO technology is wonderful and no need for your tuner to be there. They can do everything via data logging. I’ve had Johan help me at the track, on the and dyno at Demon Performance (everywhere) all without his butt in the seat. My butt does that. In a perfect world Johan & Jersey Boy would be my siblings, live close by and tune my Jeep au gratis...lol

Call Vette Culture in Mesa and see if they can help. Im not sure if Devin still works for them but see if they can get you in touch with him. He tuned my Cobra and did a phenomenal job. If he can't tune it he will know where to send you. Hes been tuning high performance vehicles in AZ for probably 20 years.

You might also check with the guys over at Automotive Diagnostic Specialties in Chandler. They tune a lot of high performance vehicles as well as diesels, buggies and boats so Im sure someone in there knows what they are doing on a Mopar.

Data logging is great but in person tuning on a dyno is hard to beat. If fuel or air is not right in person, you shut it down and correct it. On a datalog you floor it and cross your fingers. Unless he is on the phone remotely viewing a live log

Or the driver is viewing that info live while data logging and doing the same thing?

Jefe is throwing around some big weight.

Come to think of it the only real Jefe here is BIG JEFE BALLER

Listen to JFRA

How is this a topic every month....holy smokes. Just do what you want. Data logging is inferior to the dyno anyway:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

One might think that tuners grow on trees which they practically do if you have a Camaro, Corvette, CTSV....

After nearly a year at this, It is pretty darn obvious that if you don't have a tuner that is VERY familiar with not just the 392, but the 392 in a Jeep SRT then you could be fu....!

While that statement sounds ridiculous to the general motorsport population, especially to guys like me that have been around this stuff before, amazingly it is not.

I can only conclude that between Chrysler making the code a bitch to fully unlock, and the traits of the peculiar 6.4l hemi, it takes a shiteload of time and experience to understand how to manipulate the available tables and get these things running properly. I think that it also requires the analytics OVER TIME (logs) to do so. The afternoon dyno ain't getting it done unless you have a guru there and there aren't any SRT8 Gurus out here in AZ.

I'll be contacting these recommended masked men for help. Thanks to all for your help!

^^^ bingo ding ding ding we have a winner!! IMO if you’re not prepared to data log a lot then leave it stock. Nate sent Johan probably 8 logs or so and I have kept at it and sent him at least a dozen more - maybe as many as 20 more. Once you’re set you’re good but I like doing it and it’s insurance. Plus Skip says I worry too much. I don’t want problems and these motors seem finicky and J & JB are specialists for these motors. I’m sure they can do other stuff but who cares. Jfra is right. We may have to stop recommending these guys if they get too busy! I’ve learned plenty here and if Johan gets hit by a bus and Jersey Boy wins the lottery - who else is there...lol?! EKSRTinAZ we are on the same page. He doesn’t have to be hovering over the dyno. I used the dyno as a comparison tool to see how much improvement over stock I got as Johan already tuned my Jeep. I couldn’t tell a data log from a fire log but I did have him standing by and emailed the logs and he did make a small adjustment while drinking ****tails & hanging with bikini clad babes by the pool. But there was no chance of having to shut down right away as I was already dialled in when I left South Carolina. Johan has made some tweaks since I ran 11.6 (he was available while I was at the track too!) so maybe I’m running mid 9s too now - so there BJB lol!! And mondo I just got a new popcorn maker - is Meeper’s Garage a new hot rod TV show?

P.S. And since when is ****tails one of those words that deserves to be starred out?

You're supposed to type penis tails! :D. I can't speak for Johan, but my Jeep goes to the grocery store like a soccer moms Jeep, and if that store was 1300 ft away I could be there in a little over 9 seconds!
My rig has been in jersey boy's hands since 09 and that will never change.

#22 ·
Eskle! I could tell ya penis tales about making 9 second passes at soccer mom in the grocery store WITHOUT my Jeep...lol! You fastest guys make it easier for us who are trying to get there - I’m always learning here...so thanks & Happy New Year everyone!! You too Peter!!

P.S. Hey Eskle thanks for the forumly correct spelling of the word ****tail!

When the first shop had my truck on the AWD dyno. I literally witnessed the specialized tuner plugging his ears and trying to listen for knock. I didn't question him at the time because I was recommended to the shop by the biggest aftermarket distributer in Canada at the time.

I will stick to my email tunes unless I decide to send my truck south of the border for some work.

Agree, its all about the tuner and his capabilities. I still have a hard time trusting that the mods are functioning correctly and O2 sensors are working.

If it was mine, Id pay a local shop with a dyno that would allow Johan/JerseyBoy to tune it remotely.

El Jefe,

The install was done by Cordes Performance which has a great reputation.

The tune was done by a shop a few doors down called UMS Tuning using HP tuners. They have done Challengers and other Mopars .

While it is a safe tune IMHO, it's too safe as it DD's just fine, but torque management simply won't allow WOT in the low gears. AFR is good.

Also running E85 now with twin walbro's.

We never went the Diablosport route initially because my Intune from Ripp kept freezing up and never worked.

Bummer well hopefully these guys get it dialed in for you.

If they do before the middle of March you should bring it out to Gila Bend. Omega Motorsport rents out the air strip and we do 1/2 mile racing all Saturday and Sunday. 500hp cars and 2000hp cars out there. A UGR Lambo ran 231mph last event. I went 161 in a Ford GT

I thought AD Motorsports couldn't tune around the tranny after making a ton of power on the dyno so they replaced it with hardware and haven't had any problems since? Maybe they can chime in with when they had to leave the laptop and get some wrenches.
I'd imagine they would have exhausted their tuner resources before the significant investment into a new transmission.

If your hammering down the skinny pedal on a base tune your an idiot. Common sense would tell most people ease your way into wot pulls and more aggressive driving. Its a BASE tune. Safe for startup up, driving around, and sending your first set of logs to your tuner.
