Dealers not stocking 0W-40

Called dealer a week in advance to set up oil change and warranty work. Dropped off my SRT8 for an oil change. Told the tech to make sure they used correct oil. Came back the next day to pick it up, ticket showed that they put in 5W-40. Service advisor checked into it, they didn't have 0W-40 in stock so they just used what they had. Sitting in the cust service waiting area as they drive around to the auto part store to find 0W-40. This is the second dealer to not have any inventory on hand. I don't know what JEEP is doing, but I thought the SRT8 Jeep owners were getting VIP service per the SRT division. I didn't know it was B.Y.O.O. Anyone else running into this issue?

WOW!! i would be pretty angry. I fear this happening to my SRT. And for blunders of this sort, I always buy my own Mobil 0W-40 plus Mobil Oil Filter and bring it to them. I have been doing this since the day of got my SRT.

Bah, I put in 5-40 synthetic at Valvoline. The difference between 0 and 5 is so minimal it's not like your going to blow a motor. There was some confusion about the manual saying 0 and it was supposed to be 5 and some other talk about that oil being for cold weather but every mechanic I talked to said the 0-5 difference is nothing so I am not sweating it. It's not like the Hemi is some dainty motor.

The recommend Pennzoil 0W-40 for the WK2 has more ppm moly than other oils, i.e. Mobil1. It's needed for the cam phasing system. I stick with the oil the engineers recommend. Thats just my opinion.

OP, I had a similar issue. Dealer changed it out once they found the 5 gallon pail in their stock lmao. I specifically asked for 0W-40 in the beginning, but they screwed it up. I figured each time I get an oil change I want to physically see the oil and container(s) before the work is done.

Dealers up here in Canada can't even get the Pennzoil 0W-40 it's still the Mobil but at least it's 0W-40 I guess.

Chrysler lost their contract with Mobil during the bankruptcy so they switched to Pennzoil who didn't have 0W-40, only 5W-40 so they changed the recommendation to 5W-40. Now Pennzoil has 0W-40 so the recommendation is changed back to 0W-40. Sadly in business, the business constraints always trump the best technical recommendations.

Didn't the engineers in the chat session say to use 0w-40 pennzoil or the 0w-40 mobil 1 they were previously using both work perfectly fine. I bought mobil 1 myself from a local store and just had the dealer do the change. Also for Canada yes my dealer also had no idea about the pennzoil but I wanted to use the mobil 1 anyways.

SRT Engineers:
There are some disadvantages to 5W-40 usage for the cam phasing system (rather than the MDS system). The fast acting cam phaser system was designed to utilize synthetic 0W-40 vis oils. The oils we recommend are 0W40 Pennzoil Ultra (with 250 ppm moly added which gives additional cam phasing benefit - very positive on this oil) and our old SRT oil Mobil 1 (with 110-160 ppm moly).
