Gas tank wont fill up

Im having trouble filling up my gas tank all the way. It would just stop and the pump would click as if it were full. But I would only get like $20 of gas at a time. I tried holding it at different angles and still nothing. It happens at any pump pretty much. Anyone have any ideas? I have a 2016 Jeep SRT Night Edition.

I have the same problem, sometimes, I think its got something to do with air. You should try and keep pumping, eventually it will fill up.

Hold the pump nozzle up a bit instead of resting it completely in the filler tube and fill slower as you near a full tank. Also you don't want to keep clicking the nozzle in an attempt to fill completely to the top of the filler neck. I'm told overfilling can cause problems with the vapor recovery system in the vehicle.

As mentioned I have held it at different angles and Im talking about clicking when it is not full. Yesterday it clicked just below the half mark. Ive been filling up gas for over a decade lol I don't think its me but who knows. What causes it to click? Like what's the mechanism behind it.

Back pressure is the mechanism I think. My GMC truck is terrible about this. If I put the nozzle in much past the restrictor plate it won't fill at all. I have to hold the nozzle back and fill on low flow - which takes a while with 36 gallon tank. Our pump nozzles do not have the vapor recovery boot which probably makes the problem worst if they have it.

I think the gas fumes/air coming back (back pressure?) triggers the pump to stop?!?! Never looked it up really. Maybe now is the time lol....
