John why are you going to a 373's? thats pretty low gear for this car, 1rst and almost 2ond are going to be useless under WOT, if they weren't already lol. This car is so powerful as it is, I doubt you need more gear. I bet your 0-60 times will gone up, as you'll have to shift to 2nd before 60 now....Just saying, if I were you, i'd do your pulley swap/other mods first just to see how you like it, as it will be such a huge difference in the way it feels....you may not want a lower gear..
ie..My car has stock 355's, and at the 600rwhp mark there is no way id go lower in a manual trans....just too much power and too short of gear IMO.....if i were auto, that would be different....Im curious to see how you like it a 373 in that car...
How do you find the new Michelin Pilots Sports? Most guys run at least a Drag Radial for street traction....
i would agree with the 3.73 choice.
My car stock has 3.45 gear and its too long for my car. I will be opting for 3.7x gear very soon as well.
It seems like with cars with our power and our weight on a manual trans, these would net the best results from our power levels. Now it can vary depending on the trans gearing which i am not familiar with in his car exactly but i know it uses a tremec which is the same as mine so it cant be that far off.
Finishing the 1/4 mile i have to shift into 4th gear, but i finish at a low rpm. My 4th gear tops out at around 165mph, which i will never see with my power levels. By going to a 3.73 gear, that brings my 4th gear top speed down to between 140-45 depending on redline.
What you have to see is where power is produced, I have a bunch of TQ as soon as my turbos spool which is around 3200 rpm, so this would be ideal launching rpm with sticky tires. What happens with a taller gear is the car will bog off the launch. So by putting a taller gear in will make me shift a lot quicker, (example: i can reach 61mph in my first gear now, after the gear swap it will be ~47mph) but it allows me us to get in our power band quicker and stay in it more.
but yes it would all depends on his power and torque curve and trying to match it up with gearing and tires. The 3.73 is the most popular gear for our style cars up until about 850whp+ then they opt for stock gearing.
But seeing as his is supercharged vs turbo, might be able to pull out a little hard from the whole. But i still vote a 3.73
