Said no to a Hellcat...........
Today I had an opportunity to purchase a new Hellcat challenger from my dealer and said no! Am I crazy? But wait here is my reasoning why.
When the factory orders were opened my dealer required a $5K deposit to be put on a list to order, so when the list opened it quickly filled up. My dealer actually limited the number of orders in the beginning and started a second list for next round of orders if the first list of orders were filled. I was number one on second list. So we all know that FCA closed the orders after what other dealers were doing, taking orders knowing the cars would never be built.
Today my phone rings and it's my dealer and they tell me they have a Hellcat that someone was unable to purchase because lack of financing I was like Holy Sh$t of course I will buy it !
But in the very next sentence the dealer tells me is since the original purchaser couldn't buy the car that (here it comes) they were selling car for $10k over sticker and that was the deal if I wanted it.
So I wasn't terribly surprised here I know how dealers work ,so I told my dealer to give me couple hours to think about it. My first thoughts were ok pull the trigger but then something said hold on.....this is what I found out after a little digging.
1- the original purchaser put down $5k deposit and was gonna pay sticker
2- the original deposit was forfeited to dealer because financing couldn't be found
So the dealer was gonna make an easy $15,000 for absolutely nothing from them on top of the profit margin on MSRP sale, again I'm not shocked here but it's not gonna be made off me.
Out the door price would have been over $80,000 I said NO THANKS.
I'm sure someone will buy, but I just couldn't justify it.
Did I miss the boat?
