Thinking of getting a new 2016 SRT, Had an 08 and loved it. Need a nice DD and was thinking what are the brands of aftermarket exhausts that people typically buy for these and overall your experiences, Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you.
I just got a 2016 Night edition and was wondering the same thing... I have Akrapovic on my 2016 Z06 and love it but it was $4000 and I don't want to spend that on my Jeep. Any sound clips would be appreciated..
Akrapovic for a jeep is a bit too much. Just need it for a throatier sound and better rear appearance, not looking for much performance gains, although if they come with a few HP i wouldn't complain.
GTHaus, aFe, Borla, Kooks, Stainless Works, MRT, Corsa, Magnaflow, JBA and Flowmaster are about the only ones making bolt on kits. Plus mufflex if you just want to make it louder without changing much.
Type any of those into youtube with "Jeep SRT" and youll find all sorts of videos. You really only need to look up GTHaus though
well yes the big a55 stock rear muffs go but in their place are straight-thru type muffers that look like the old Thrush ones.
get the ATAK Cat-back from MarylandSpeeed and have them black ceramic coat it...got mine for $1,350 delivered...the black (it's only on the axle-back part) blends in nicely with the all black lower bumper area and the sound is pretty nice....mellow cruising (no real drone other than MDS transitions which I avoid in Sport Mode) but fairly nasty WOT...I was only playing (dreaming) with my GT Haus vid above...their titanium version is a friggin' work of art and priced like one...
Unless you want to get on the crack pipe with me and buy Kooks 3" exhaust with 1.875" headers then I would get rid of the suitcase and straight pipe it leaving the cats and resonators. All done for a few hundred dollars and sounds great. SRT engineers spend a lot of time and money on designing the most out of these things so unless you like the sound or are making 700+ horsepower then you won't see much, if any performance improvement at all and in some cases a reduction in exhaust gas velocity will take away from bottom end torque. It's all a matter of your personal preference and it's your money. Just trying to help from my experience and the stuff I've busted...lol.
I have a stainless works box sitting in my dining room waiting to go on. I have the car up on the lift for a detail for a car show, but no time to put it on until after the show
Beware of buying from MarylandSpeed. Bought a Ceramic Coated Borla S from them and it had dents under the ceramic coating. So either they sent a damaged system to the ceramic coater or the ceramic coater damaged it before ceramic coating it. The response from MarylandSpeed was that the system can be dented during the ceramic coating process. Not good. Also there were some spots where the coating rubbed off, I'm assuming during the curing process. Had they informed me of this while selling me the system, I would have skipped the coating and better yet, bought the system elsewhere. Why would you want to deal with a company whose coating process damages your customers system. I even sent pics in to them and got no response back. Planned on purchasing a few more things from MarylandSpeed but now, I'll spend my money elsewhere. I think they're buying dented and damaged goods from these companies and that's why they discount the products so much. BEWARE!
First off..we have been offering the coated AXLEBACKS on our site for years with no issues.
People saw the coated axlebacks and asked if we could do the same for the catback (coat the axle section). This is not an option on our site, and you have to call and ask for it.
After doing a few we learned some things. First..when we sent the uncoated ones out, we had no complaints. Suddenly however, the black coated ones started getting complaints of slightly dented mufflers (like every other system). We replaced a few, but then realized this can't be shipping damage..it has to be process related. Especially considering we never got these complaints with the axlebacks we coated for years. Finally we found out the dents were happening from going in the oven to bake the coating. Basically the much larger oval muffler on the catback has thinner walls and less internal supports than the axlebacks. So when you put it in the oven, it heats up and balloons out..then when it cools it contracts and the dents form. There is nothing we can do about this. Second, we have had people complain about little coating imperfections in places you wont see it. Like coating inconsistency on the back of the muffler. You can't see this, and we can't offer the service if we have to keep picking up an 80lb system and recoating it. The only reason we coat the whole system is that it is easier than taping off and coating only the tips. Because of that, only the finish on the tips and visible parts guaranteed.
All of this is the whole reason the black coated catback is not on our site. You have to call and agree you understand before we will do it.
The whole we are selling scratch and dent systems is an insulting accusation. Every system we sell is new from Borla. These are made in very small runs, and Borla does not sell scratch and dent systems to dealers.
wow, stuffs happens and all is well if the vendor has your back..sorry it did not work out for you....I had the opposite experience....coating was perfect, no dents BUT the x-pipe was made without the proper enlarged end so I had a male-to-male connection..they were very upset it happened and overnighted for Saturday delivery a new x-pipe...I do agree tho that the process of using a 3rd party to coat does make your problems definitely more likely...
Exactly. You knew of this problem beforehand and I should have been informed that this could possibly happen with the coating process. Not a good way to do business. Oh yeah I forgot, you were trying to hit your sales quota for the month so I guess that was more important than informing your customer. A nice little disclaimer on your site about this possibly happening is all it takes to not have your business blasted on a forum.
Here is a clip of my 2014 with Corsa Catback. It's a nice compromise between the GT Haus and the borla.. Just the right amount of nasty for me. You will definitely hear it though even when you are just daily driving. I have friends with the borla atak and its just not enough for me and the GT is too much for daily in my opinion. My mods are only CAI and exhaust... Until I go whipple that is.

I was under the impression that the corsa was the most conservative out pretty much all of them. In your opinion how does the Corsa rate to the Borla ATAK, since from what i read and heard online that was the louder one from the two. Haven't heard any in person hence my question. thanks for the feedback. GT Haus sounds like it would be very difficult to live with on a daily driver.
Just realized you were talking about getting a 2016. My only info was regarding sounds on the 2014. I've only heard the Borla Atak axle back on 2014's. I just saw they actually have a Borla Atak full Catback for the 2015-2016 models that wasn't available for 2014 and I haven't heard that yet. If you happen to be in the Dallas,TX area let me know and you can take a listen to my Corsa.
The Corsa definitely sounds great. I live by the factory and worked with them on a custom exhaust for my '14 Summit Hemi and a group buy for a short run of it but I drummed up enough biz that they made it a product so I definitely have a soft spot for Corsa especially since I got to have their C6 6spd for 6 weeks. Not a Z06 like your monster but it was fun....that thing sounded mean with their exhaust, CAI and tune....it needed new tires when I gave it back. >
Even though it was nearly a given I would Corsa my SRT I got sucked into hearing the Borla ATAK (and the Corsa) and the Borla is definitely louder and meaner and I honestly felt it had a bit too much raspiness at WOT for my tasts. They all sound great it's just a matter of what each person "hears". I can't seem to catch a non-windy day to grab a good vid of mine but here is a MY15 with Borla ATAK Cat-back that sounds identical to mine. I know what you mean about the head snaps when you start, hilarious as they look for the 'vette...they tilt their heads like a curious dog when they realize it's a Grand Cherokee...:grin2:
No diff in sound on Borla ATAK Cat-back MY14 to MY15, can only assume MY16 is identical. Only reason there is a product diff is your MY14 has the exhaust valves and MY15+ don't. The valves only existed to reduce drone during MDS transitions...don't know what they did for MY15+ to address that supposed concern that the exhaust valves handled but it did bump rated HP 5hp (whoopee) and nobody complains of drone on stock exhaust MY15+.
Man that Corsa C6 looks sick!!!!! Yeah I like all exhaust sounds. Never met a car I couldn't find something to like about it. I've put exhaust on my lawn mower. My wife always tells her friends and family it's the first thing I do when I get a new car.
Found this video earlier. It's a pretty cool side by side comparison of the stock exhaust, Borla S, Borla Atak and GT Haus.
I really can't tell based on vids only. Since each one is recorded with a different camera. Each time I listen to different videos I think one is louder than the other, but when I play them again I think the opposite?. I'd have to hear them in person. I'll try to see if I can get some folks together at the next cars and coffee and see if we can line up and see what the difference is. I've just never heard the full Catback Borla Atak. I'm glad they made it. I might have gotten it if they offered it for my '14. Would be cool to measure the decibel levels since each has such a distinct sound that may make them sound louder/quieter just depending on the individuals listening.
