I would love to see an accurate study of how the African American community (as a whole) has progressed or digressed from day one of Obama to his last day in office in just over 4 yrs (or any group that has a large percentage living in poverty or receiving government aid). I use the African American community as an example as most of them view him as a president that is more representative of them and that he is going to be active in correcting the financial equality that are perceived to exist. That gives him 8yrs to make something happen.
If there has been a significant move to self sufficiency and a moved up in economic status or if they have just remained stagnate or even digressed backward with more hands out.
Also how the country as a whole has moved "forward" or backwards in personal economic standing. Have more fallen out of the middle class than have been added to it and that goes for the "wealth class" as well.
My guess as to how it would come out is that the country as a whole will have digressed much further than any one group will progress and that is being very optimistic.
In other words has redistribution really worked? Can the government actually make a more even playing field and bring wealth and stability to the nation as a whole or will everyone be brought down in order for things to be "fair".
I know that it is more about buying votes and not economic progress but it might sway a few of the guilty that believe that the rich must pay and this will some how elevate the poor to a more level playing field.
You can take a fish from a fisherman and give it to someone in need and feed them for a day but if you teach them how to work hard and to fish for themselves you will give them a far greater gift.
Eventually the fisherman will grow weary of working for others benefits and seeing his hard work given to those that do nothing or very little.
I have always lived in a middle class neighborhood: lower, middle and upper. I have also had a lot of exposure to poverty and wealth. I have seen real poverty as it exists in third world countrys. I cant conceive that someone would not want to work as I do and have the opportunity that exist for me because of that. They would rather take the scraps that the government hands out to exist at a poverty level and never move beyond it.
PS I do understand that there are exceptions and some people NEED help. But we should not strive and work (IMO) to create a whole sector of the populations that learns to live on this government hand out.
But what do I know
