Don’t know about any other state but it's most likely the same in any state but here in Ohio during the firearms training portion of the academy we are taught to shoot to “stop the aggression” to protect any civilian not just another officer, its never taught in any Ohio police academy to “shoot to kill” but at the same time it’s known what the outcome will most likely be and in the heat of the moment things escalate and happen so fast that the officer probably didn’t even realize how many rounds he fired until after it was all over.

But the victim did have a deadly weapon and did make an aggressive move with that weapon towards the other officer and officers are not taught how many rounds are too few or too many, the end result was that he did stop the aggression of the suspect to protect the officer.
And I dont think that anyone would think it was unjustified, if he were going towards one of their family members or an innocent child.

I don't believe that they actually shot him. He is handcuffed face down. No blood anywhere. Sorry something doesn't look right but maybe he did really get shot not saying it was wrong. When you swing a pipe bender at a cop u intend to do some harm.

i think the cop was right on... i know for a fact police officers here in indiana (half my family are cops) are taught to put 3 in the chest! and i don't know about you guys... but me personally i have always been taught if you pull your gun you better use it... and there will only be one side to that story almost guaranteed if you put three in their chest. but could i see maybe just sicking the dog on the guy then grabbing a hold of him.. yeah maybe! ha but there's not much time to think in that situation... good to see everyone else was kept safe because of that officer's actions

If you are stupid enough to make a threatening gesture to an armed police officer who has repeatedly told you to drop the weapon then you need to be shot. We need these type of cops everywhere. Shoot the f****r, make sure he is immobilized, move on and let it serve as an example to the other douche bags that think they might have a shot at an officer trained to handle a firearm with a crowbar.

I think we can all agree that anything said on this forum between ourselves is just speculation, opinion, and rhetoric.

That being the case, the root argument is that we live in an age where there is very little respect for police officers, especially in California. Criminals and thugs do not respect the law, the do not fear breaking the law, they do not fear jail, and dealing with the police is nothing to them but a cat and mouse game as they shuffle into and out of the prison system.

There was a time in the history of this country where you DID NOT run from police; if you did, the last thing you felt was two slugs from a .38 Colt Detective Special ripping through your back. Yes.. "Stop, in the name of the law.... Bang! Bang!" And thats all there was to it. As a result, people did what they were told, and respected the law, not out of some sense of moral highground or false utopian sense of order, but because they knew they WOULD GET SHOT. Crimanls feared prison, becuase prison was horrible, chain gangs, hard labor, spartan conditions. Now its just one gang vs another gang with TV, weights, magazines, air conditioning, 3 squres, and conjugal visits to keep everyone occupied.

I say if you don't drop your knife, club, or other deadly weapon when an officer of the law polititely orders you to do so, you get 3 seconds to either comply, or make your case in front of God. This guy chose the later becuase in his mind, he was a badass that had no respect for the law. Now he's a dead badass.

Aside from the Darwin Award he gets for bringing a lead pipe to a gun fight, I'm glad the California tax payers don't have another retard sucking down tax dollars for free in the federal prison system. Imagine for one second if prisoners, upon release, had to pay back the tax payers for their time in prison in the form of wage garnishments. Oh wow, what a concept.

If you want to break down the mechancis of the incient, its sort of a moot point. From what I've read on stress situations, such as gun fights and police shootings, there is memory loss and time decompression. Some poeple report their memories as if watching it third person, and when questioned as to how many rounds they fired its usually "one or two", and then the magazine is dead empty upon inspection, meaning they fired about 5-6 times as many bullets as they can recall. In life and death situations, the brain enters a fight-or-flight mode which scientists know almost nothing about; other than the strange phenomenon I mentioned above are side effects, and that it is thought to stem from our evolutionary survival skills. So what looks like "excessive" rounds fired to you, is probably a fleeting fart in the wind to someone who is actually pulling the trigger.

El Guapo there is lucky he just got shot with a pistol.. the most underpowered weapon ever conceived.
